hi peeps been using astranews with grabit for a wee while now and decided to start doing secure downloads with the ssl that they offer. so changed all the info in grabit etc and it does not d/l the files via the secure server. had a look on tinterweb and a few posts have said ssl works and few have said it does not work with grabit. currently using altbinz but prefer grabit. any help appreciated

It works fine, apart from a bug in Grabit that sometimes makes it lock up when trying to access the SSL server. If it's not connecting and it's not crashing, your settings are probably wrong. My bet is that you didn't tick the tickboxything on the server setup menu. Tick it, and all should be okay.

check out alt.binz instead of grabit - I changed from grabit back when it didn't support ssl at all - alt.binz is very good

using altbinz just now but prefer grabits automatic extract and repair for files and i know it only takes a few clicks but i'd rather not hang about until the d/l is complete.

yeah I know what you mean - took me a while to get used to quickpar - grabit does auto repair very well - I thinik alt.binz is suppsoed to auto extract now but it didn't work last time I tried it.

anyway - I'll leave you to it then - just thought you might not know abotu alt.binz.

tried the 3 different secure servers and the 2 secure ports and ticked the box, unistalled and reinstall but still could not connect, maybe just have to bite the bullet and stick with altbinz

try using a new nzb as it may be not connecting as its too old for your newsgroup subscription

Ive been using torrents for about 6 years or so now and I am a member of quite a few private trackers; but I have wondered about newsgroups for a while. Do any of you know where I can find a guide on how newsgroups work and how to start using them?

I have heard that they are safer and very hard to trace through without considerable effort (and untraceable if you use a vpn?)
