on monday i will start the atkins diet hoping to lose a stone a week.

its all confusing.....

am i right in thinking to eat only protein foods? so chicken, fish, veg etc and to cut out carbs like bread etc...

will i actually lose weight if i ate a whole roast chicken every day?

I did the atkins diet for a few months and lost loads of weight. I went from a size 22 to a 12 in 3 months. You have to cut out carbs and eat protein - meat really. I ate bacon, eggs and sausages for breakfast, cheese omlette for lunch and steak and salad for tea and still lost weight. Unfortunately it also gave me gallstones so i cant do it anymore! Get yourself an atkins diet book which has all the foods and the diet principles explained in full

I will guarantee you, you will not lose a stone a week. I have done a few nutrition courses as part of my job (football coach) and I'm afraid you won't lose what you want.

Atkins will lose you weight but it's not ideal health wise if you do it the wrong way. Atkins is basically high protein foods with as little carbs as possible. Not all veg is acceptable, only greens.

All meats acceptable, white meat preferably as red meat although acceptable will help with muscle increase (if it's weight you're looking to lose then stick to white).

Carbs include rice, bread, potatoes so will be difficult to put meals together. Also milk is a no-no. Stay away from peanuts in the first two weeks but a handful acceptable after then.

Stay away from diet fizzy drinks as they have aspartame in, which actually stores in your body which will not help in weight loss. Drink plenty of water and to add flavour add sugar free concentrated juice.

Sugar replacement on Atkins should be Splenda as aspartame is in many of the other sugar replacements.

I'm not saying you should do it, but if you do make sure you do it as healthy as possible (if there is such a thing on Atkins) by eating salads for lunch instead of sausages, roast chickens etc.

Finally cheese and eggs are acceptable on Atkins but don't overdo it.

Good luck with it, it will be hard and you may get a few headaches starting off as your body will crave sugar. You may also have mood swings.

a stone a week wtf, i swear the safe amount is about 2 pounds a week

i thought with the atkins diet your meant to do it for 2weeks then eat normal for a week then start again as its not good for you to do it all the time or something like this.

well i believe all diets are bad, change you eating habits for life thats the only way you will lose weight and keep it off, dieting means your body gets used to having or not having foods, moderation is the only sure way

Not true for everyone.Your stomach shrinks while on the diet and you dont feel as hungry as you did before the diet. I kept the weight off for years after the atkins diet. Only put weight back on after having 2 babies in 18 months

yup, u just eat meat all day and very little veggies along with it. Of course, the less meat you eat/day, the quicker your weight loss. And yes, it works.

I did te atkins, you think you wont lose weight but u do because protean is more filling than carbs so you actualy end up eating less calories

it also makes you depresed so you dont want eat

well i had a high protein diet after surgery, and i piled on weight, and didnt really lose much when i came off it, some may have been due to being less energetic after surgery, but certainly not all

You put 2 stone on over Christmas. What were you doing just eating non stop.

It is a common & well known side effect of the Atkins Diet due to the fact that u r eating less carbs. The smell originates from the stomach rather than just the mouth; & of course u can use mouthwash!

I have lost 16lbs in 8 weeks by cutting out snack foods and junk and eating more healthy.
Special K or fresh grapefruit for breakfast, crispbread with cheese or a Weight Watchers Bagel with ham or cheese salad, dinner is steamed meat and salad. I don't like fish so that's of the menu, As a snack i will have special k mini breaks or a WW chocolate chip cookie. I also walk alot and when I have time use My fitness coach on the wii.

Great. You lost average of 2lb per week. Well done. :)

1 Stone per week or even month :whistling: utter tosh. Unless you are living a totally unrealistic life which is not sustainable in the long term.

Most of us mere mortals want to lose weight but have a life as well. I lost 3 stone last year. Eat what I wanted over Xmas and put on 6lb which I will now lose over the next few weeks. Snow has gone, back on the bike. :p

2 stone "over xmas"....was that Oct to Jan?? binge eating...not physically possible in just 2 weeks IMO

Ideally you shouldn't look for a quick fix, i know it's easier said than done but it should be a realistic change of eating habits that you can stick with. If you cut out fat and fatty products and extra sugar(sugar that isn't found naturally in foods) and balance your meals it would be much healthier for you. The occasional treat is ok too, and if you increase your activity you should see results. If you bought a calorie counting book you would be suprised at how much food you can have as long as you plan it properly.

If someone is very overweight they could possibly lose up to a stone in a week but it would mostly be water that the body has retained, it wouldn't be fat though.
