dont bother with these 'fool proof' diets

We do our own version of the Atkins diet now and then. Basically we cut out bread, pasta and potato for a certain period of time. You will find that the weight drops off you pretty quickly but its not good as a long term thing.
#3
I was actually reading up online about that too.. I may give it a try :)

ill listen to people who have tried it, i guess you havent?

Girls at work have tried it...yes it did work but they ended up with bad breath, stomach problems and when they went back to eating "normal" the weight piled on twice as much. Don't think of it as a diet and depriving yourself of stuff, just change your eating habits.

i tried it and lost 10 lbs in 10 days, but had severe stomach cramps, and felt really lethargic.ok as a quick fix but no good if you've got more than 1 stone to lose.
#7
it works - my mum did it to slim down for some wedding ages ago. I didn't notice but apparently it makes your breath smell..
it's only a temporary solution too. once you go back to a normal diet, the weight comes right back.

The weight is falling off me! I ain't doing that but my own version of weight watchers. But when dieting you do get bad breath, and need the loo alot more. I'm struggling to eat all my allocated points though, just don't want to eat anymore am full.
#9
The weight will only come back if you let it surely.. if you eat what you did before the diet, obviously you are going to put it back on :-D ive been at the weight i am now after losing 4 stone for a whole year and its because i eat a balanced diet now but not low cal enough to lose weight, so aslong as weight gets burned on this diet i know i can keep it off.

oh and the atkins diet works out a lot more expensive, coz of the extra cost of using more meat, cheese, eggs etc

Well done for losing it ...you need to keep eating though because your metabolism will slow down and then you won't burn off the calories.

Would be interested to hear peoples diet plans and how effective they are.

I need to shift a few pounds myself. A stone and a half, max. Joined the gym last week but haven't gone yet

Its does also get quite boring and you get stuck as to what to cook for lunch/tea. Basically we just have chicken/meat/fish with veg and at lunchtime have tuna, bacon, ryvita........

Eating food won't burn off fat! whatever you eat........you get to a stage where your body gets used to what you put in and hits a plateau. Exercise might be the thing for you now.

Yeah i know i just physically cant get any more food in, and i'm leaving about a good 7 points at least!! :w00t: I also have to eat them coz as the weight goes down, the points go down too so eventually i'm not going to be losing! Arrrgghhh

You need to eat breakfast........porridge is the best thing as it fills you up and is a slow release energy giver. If you need a boost have fruit. Things like celery, cucumber are great to snack on because they are a natural diuretic, hence you pee out fluid which would otherwise bloat you. Don't kill your food with salt, and before you eat have a couple of glasses of water. Don't feel guilty about having a treat ...we are only human.

Forget the Atkins. Reduce calorie intake and increase exercise. That's all you need. Good luck!

Save them for treats.......actually wow that is actually a lot of points to be missing out on, can't you slightly change your eating habit to incorporate the extra points? what about the little yoghurt drinks or a bit of fruit.

Easier said than done though, it is common sense but to some food is an addiction, we know smoking and alchohol is bad and can cut it out, but we all need food to survive so it's not avoidable.

Preferably not at the same time, otherwise you end up with less calories = often lethargic, and increased exercise whilst lethargic = passing out! ;-)

Stages, slowly reduce your calorie intake over a couple of weeks and then introduce more and more exercise. Slowly you will begin to feel more energised and have more energy to do exercise anyway.
Also cut carbs and saturated fats, those are the main two food groups that won't help.

Just remember if you drop weight like what is meant to happen on Atkins ie 10lbs in 10days as above no wonder you put it straight back on! Ideal weight loss I believe is 4lbs per month? I know it is not a lot, but you will be more likely to keep it off.

I know you have asked about Atkins experiences but thought you may benefit from my 2 cents.....

I won't go into detail but I wouldn't bother with Atkins, if you need to follow a 'diet', look into either the Paleo or Zonediet, these are much better alternatives, although both have their pros / cons. I'm a PT and sometimes advise clients to follow in some circumstances for a period of time. Look them up, read and find out more.

my friend lost 10kg in 10 weeks on it.

I've been doing it for the last couple of weeks, just to get rid of about 12lb, it's a great quick fix diet, you can have up to 20g of carbs a day, I eat mainly bacon, eggs, cheese, burgers, lots of chicken and other meat, I've lost 9lb already, Ive got the book but it goes onto too much detail, I can send you a quick guide in PDF form if you like? There is also another similar one out now called the dukkan diet, supposed to not be as restricting

you can have up to 20g

I'm meant to be eating 450g of carbs a day at the moment, although I'm not looking to loose weight :-D
