While needing to buy lunch at work today I got £20 out of a cash machine and one £10 note was fake, but i didnt realise. Straight away I tried to use it at a small butty shop and they used a UV light on it and realised it was fake. The owner shouted at me assuming I made it and tried to scam him, I wouldnt know where to start. So after huge embarrassment of being shouted at in the shop full of customers I had to pay using the other £10, luckily that one was real!

I am wondering if theres anyway I could get it swapped for a real one by reporting it or am I stuck with it?

thats terrible poor you, take it back to the bank and explain all the embarassment it has caused you also.
#3
Yeah i woulda shouted back and told him to stick his lunch up his erse then took it back to the bank and shouted at them for being so stupid.
#4
i remember a few years back i withdrew about £120 out of the machine and toddled off shopping. I went to buy a pair of shoes and every single note was a fake ! ..luckily the woman in the shop was really nice and just handed them all back to me, obviously i was fuming so took the money to the bank and they changed it straight away with no hassle.

nope he didnt switch it i noticed when i got it the note was blank, the guy was in the army lol, im only 18 so i didnt want to start on a 40 year old :)

I went to the bank and they said they cant do anything, it took convincing to give it me her back when i asked her to check

at the end of the day you are hardly going to go into a bank and lie about this are you? lol

i found who owned the atm it was "Bank Machine" I gave them a call and they said post it in and they'll send me "SOMETHING" in the post? hopefully it will be reimbursement...

anybody know what I should put? rubbish at this sorta stuff
#11
take the news to the sun newspaper and sell the story, make some stuff up that you are now scared to go into shops alone because of the embarrasment. With all the financial stuff going on in the world the sun are the people who are likely to print the story.

Then go back to the people responsible and get another £10

I'd guess you'd need a brief description of what happened, include date, time, how much the transaction was for and the location of the cash machine
#13
go spend it somewhere else
#14
The bloke in the shop gave it you back? he broke the law himself than as all fake notes passed to businesses must be retained and police informed, in effect he has now knowingly distributed fake money!

can add that to my story to the news of the world  if he retained it would i have lost out on the £10 or would he have to accept it?

I tried spending the money in a self serve sainburies but it wouldnt accept it. I couldnt face the embarrassment again it was so horrible!
#16
good idea with the pictures! i so lucky asked for a receipt so i've included a copy which says most the information

the note is a good fake it has a hologram of the queen and all that, only thing that gives it away is the foil thing isnt shiny

Just spend it somewhere else, the supermarket or something.

You unfortunately have no proof that you received that £10 from the cash machine. You could have just printed some off, and are trying to exchange them.

I',m highly surprised to see that people on here are saying banks swap fake notes with no hassle :w00t:

ive ended up with fake notes before easiest way to get rid of them, go out for a drink to a busy pub on afriday night, most fakies are pretty good so they will be way to busy to check properly

thought i'd post some pictures... you can see why the people would check it with the black stuff

my question is how did it end up in an ATM. i'd understand in a corner shop or something.

oh and im sending it off :) or i'd probably be trying to load it onto someone else... i know its cruel
#24
Where was the cash machine?

Aren't "Bank Machine" the owners of cash machines in corner shops, clubs etc? If so, the shop/club/where ever the machine is fill them up.
#25
it was in the wall of a closed shop (Victoria wine maybe?) i think they're going to contact the people who fill up that machine on my behalf. I'll be sure to tell u what i get from them :) hopings its not just a thanks letter.

i was impressed when i called, straight through to a person, no automated voice messages

What bank did you go to?

I'm amazed that a. they couldn't do anything and b. they actually gave you the note back.
#29
well she didnt try to take it off me, i asked her to put it under the UV light so i knew it was fake and I went into my bank, Lloyds it was 10 minutes before they closed so maybe she couldnt be bothered? she doesnt have to do anything anyway its not her problem lol

yup 100% its not the right size for one... ill try to compare it to a normal one come back in a few minutes. I thought the job they did was rather good, only downside was the shiny bit as said before

The size is that much out

Nope, Ive pretty much learned how to spot them anyway, Never took a fake not ever, always stopped them
#36
i've never had anyone try before. somebody would have their morals extremely wrong if they tried scamming a library  using fake money to pay their fines lol!

I know i'd never shout at anyone trying it though, just ask them for another one

anyone got an idea what the black stuff could be round the sides? im quite sure its not burnt
#37
Sounds like the owner of that shop did a swap. Classic Scam- It was on the real hustle 2 shows ago! I think.
The chance of a bank owned ATM doing that are a million to one

In some cases, you may be correct, however, in this case, a switch would have been obvious, with the ink stains around the edge of the note.
#39
yeah the ink stain is obvious if it was switched and when it came out the machine im sure its something quite noticeable.
#40
yup i dont believe he switched it, it was a low level employee that first served me until the owner came along, i believe it did come out of the cash machine,

im never using that machine EVER again. scrap that, whereever possible stay away from the bank machine, stick with actual bank ATMs :)
