Audio Advice
Hi All
Thanks in advance for your consideration and views.
I have a Panasonic 42" GT30 Plasma TV, very happy with the TV but have been looking for some time to try and improve the sound experience.
I have limited space and the TV sits on a corner unit. I have a budget of up to around £300.
Main use would be:
SKY HD
PS3 Gaming
PS3 Blu Rays
Music from iPod/Iphone.
I have considered a wide range of options but a combination of space and my better half has confirmed I am looking for a 2.1 type system. I'm by no means an audiophile but a friend or two tell me I shouldn't be buying a system without HD audio or active sub speakers etc etc... thing is i'm not sure whether I'd notice the difference?
The current options I am considering are:
Samsung HWE551 | Soundbar | Richer Sounds
Onkyo HTX22HDX Black | 2.1 Package System inc. Speakers excluding DVD Player | Richer Sounds
Bose® COMPANION® 5 | Multimedia Speaker System | Richer Sounds
My current favorite is the first link the Samsung HW 551e which I have heard in store playing music and film trailers, I was impressed.... but I'm getting hung up on the lack of HD audio... should I be?
The Onkyo system seems to be more equiped technically but I just don't like the athestics, and the bose system was just a straight forward simple "solution".. but i'm told this isn't "home cinema"
Would be really appreciative of any views / suggestions anyone has.
Thank You.

Secondly, if you're not an audio mad kinda guy then I doubt you'd really appreciate the decent differences of the "HD" audio formats (blu-ray would be the only thing that utilises this anyway).
Thirdly, I'd advise you stay away from 5.1 as it's costly and consumes space which is a major annoyance when it comes to positioning etc.
Fourthly I'd personally advise that you get a passive 2.1. system. You can get some very decent HiFi speakers for around the £100 mark and a nice stereo amp to go with it on your budget. Add some decent speaker stands and then have a listen, would be great for music, tv gaming. If it's not "bass'y" enough THEN think about adding a sub, might not even be needed.
Speaking from personal experience here mind, I have a custom put together "HD" 5.1 system, had a 2.1 previously, I study sound tech in university etc
Also I'd recommend Richer Sounds, decent prices.
Any questions etc let me know :)

Firstly thanks for your reply. Would you be able to recommend an amp like you suggested?
Thanks

Np, you can get a decent amp for under £200 and you can pick up some real bargains if you buy 2nd hand discontinued stock.
Either of these 2 amps would be more than suitable and they both get good user reivews
Amp 1
Amp 2
If you're prepared to buy senond had you can get some great amps on the cheap such as this one
Second Hand Alternative
As for speakers there is a lot of competition under the £150 mark. I can vouch for these (they also get a 5 star write up and look great)
Tanooy V1 Speakers
I wont list a subwhoofer as you should really listen to the stereo system before deciding to add a sub.
I also wont list speaker stands as they are mostly down to personal taste and are reliant on space.
Hope this helps :)
