Hello all

I recently uploaded AVG, altho every time i switch on the laptop, the icon for it says "an item is red" (meaning something is wrong) , Iv went in and the email scanner is always red?
Iv switched it on then switched the laptop off and on again and it switches itself off again GGrrrrr

Is this something to do with vista business?

Also the AVG anti spyware icon in the bottom right is always grey? why is this and how do i get it coloured (or working fine)

Not really, they just watch what you're doing & where you visit and report back. Just delete the lot.

As for reinstalling...........:-D My work here is done. :giggle:

Another free alternative is Avast antivirus, if ya wanna try it ;)
http://www.avast.com/

Perhaps that may work on your system.

The AVG is normally looking for an update on startup.
After an update there is an option - to apply changes immediately, to restart and apply changes or to do something else (can't remember what it is - I am away from my PC now). By default it is set to "apply after restart". In this case if there was an update, the icon will turn gray and it'll complain about "components are in error state" or something like that.
You can change this option to "apply immediately", go to control center, select Update and click on Options (or Preferences or whatever it is).
Then restart PC and it should work OK.

Komuunist do you have a good Firewall package? that zonealarm iv heard is pants
#23
I am using ZoneAlarm. Never had any issues with it and it is mainly used to not let software FROM my PC to connect to Internet. My main firewall is in router, so if you have router it is likely you don't need software firewall at all.

yeh got the netgear router with Sky, that should be ok ?

i have a livebox, and i noticed within its config pages about a firewall. How effective are these?

I am not an expert in security :) Test your firewall here: Shields Up. It'll test your firewall (router or software). It'll start an attack on your firewall and probe ports to determine what is open.
