You may have to bite the bullet mate. At least with torrents you don't get so many DDL sites trying to sneak dodgy .hta's onto your pc.....

i usually use rapidshare

Quicktime player can convert video formats.
Don't know if this is limited to Quicktime Pro only though, I have Quicktime Pro so I don't know if its possible on the normal Quicktime player.

best one IMHO is convertxtodvd although you have to use torrents or pay up for it. converts a 2 hour movie in 1 hour.

Try http://handbrake.fr/?article=download this is an open source programme probably the best around its free and availale for most platforms. Remember to check your avi file is almost identical to mpeg4 and like my SAMSUNG HDD DRIVE I keep all my films at 0.7gb each on the hard disk with no need for conversion. Look for player with divx capability. This programme gets rave reviews 4 of 5's I use it myself.
Hope it works for you

The best one I've used so far is called dvdSanta. A few of the others sometimes gave me a slight lag when I'd converted, but I've not had this problem once with dvdSanta. Easy to figure out too :)

I found that as well. If it does work it does a good job though. Too hit and miss for me.

The only time I've had it crash on me was when I got a laptop with Vista, but after I'd downloaded the latest version of dvdSanta, it was fine after that. 'Im obviously just lucky (she says touching wood and all that ) :-D
