Avg or avast, same with most things, you will get fanboys of both on here.. I personally use Avg and have no issues with it, but from what I hear, both are good.

One (lonely) vote for Avira - highly recommended.

AVG free for me - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

The current (March) edition of PC Pro has a useful and comprehensive review of the paid-for security suites if you want to take that route.

Avira Premium Security Suite comes out as best of the lot, but AVG beats all of them for web-based threats, and it's free.

AVG Problems ?? What problems ?? Have used AVG for quite some time on several machines, and never had a problem with any of them.

AVG used to be the best free AV, but they made changes to their prog meaning it is slow and cumbersome when it comes to scanning and updating.

AVAST is faster at scanning and less intrusive with it's updates, but it's interface isnt so great or user friendly, however it is still the Free AV of choice.

For paid products, nothing comes close to NOD32, from www.eset.com. McCaFee is a close second and much as I have hated norton products in the past, their 2009 version is a massive leap forward.

Can't direct link to AV Comparatives.....they'll have to browse through from here: http://www.av-comparatives.org/ pick comparatives then look at the last few "online results"

AVIRA comes out top of the freebies in both the last two tests.
