B&Q Instore Returns Policy Has Changed - Keep Hold Of Your Reciept!

saintscouplesaintscouple

I didn't realise this till today, but the returns policy changed as from 15 Feb.
You can no longer return any items without a reciept (except when item is faulty where you can provide proof of purchase i.e bank statement if paid by card).

I always over-estimate my jobs i.e buy an extra bag of gravel, cement, etc as last thing i want is to run out in the middle of a job. I never kept my reciept in the past and would just return any extras for a credit note.......but this is not allowed anymore unless you have your reciept. They won't even accept proof of purchase, unless the item is faulty.

I can understand if perhaps it's a main branded product, that's freely available from other retailers, but not when it's B&Q branded.

So the new policy is -

Changed your mind or excess to requirements - 45 days to return with reciept and if paid by card, that must be presented as well.

Faulty item - reciept or proof of purchase with card if paid by it.

Made to measure items are non-refundable.

The new policy should be displayed at the returns desk, though would be best displaying it at the tills so you're aware at point of sale, wouldn't you think.

cheers for the heads up, i was due to get some laminating flooring & wallpaper, but would have taken longer then 45 days to have laid/hung the stuff, means now i have to get on with it quicker, rather then just looking at it !

Its true, I work for B&Q and we found that some customers were taking the pi#s out of us, most companies only give 45 days so we have followed suit. Also some not very nice people used us as a hire shop and once the job was done bought the stuff back (eg tile cutter) no longer will this be allowed. Yeyyyyy for my bonus which i work so hard for.

I'm not surprised at the abuse with the old system tbh, just wish they would display a policy change at the tills, rather than a returns desk when it's all to late.

I used to work at head office on the dot com side of things and loved recieving a share of the bonuses all you store workers had made for us

It is a shame they have changed the policy. B&Q have taken a couple of items back for me in the past where I have genuinely lost the receipt. I purchase from B&Q because of the flexible returns policy. I won't bother any more, I will buy from wherever is cheapest and make sure I look after the receipt.

It makes a lot of sense though as you could easily pick something off the shelf and take it to the service desk for a refund/credit note!

well about time too, B&Q were used as hire shop by some trademen. buy the tools, use them for the job and then return for replacement/refund

It is diplayed on the front of the returns desk, there are signs on every till (including self serve)
Alot of Staff wear huge badges saying "Keep your receipt" and (in our store anyway) there are huge signs on the entrance and exit doors.

If you read what some of the idiots in this post -
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/629169/20-off-everything-this-weekend-at-b?page=2
-have been doing then maybe you'll understand why the policy had to change.

if you want too rip b&q off then buy goods that are on half price plus further 20% off and when they go back upto full price return without receipt for a full price refund on a credit note. then use credit note too buy what you want but you have a credit note thats only cost you 40% of its value.for instance a drill full price was £100 and is reduced too £50 and you buy at weekend for £40. return drill after it goes back too full price unopened unwanted present and recieve a credit note for £100. do this a couple of times and you could end up with anything you want for 40% of its real price ha ha.

Also, who suffers when a big company gets defrauded? The staff are the first to go when money runs short.

I have no problems with this. How hard is it to put the receipt in your wallet/purse when you get it. Funny how people lose the receipt, but i bet they don't lose their card that was handed back to them with the receipt, or the notes from the change.

    How legal is this?

Shops HAVE to offer at least a exchange or credit note as far as i know

Do they, so you buy a cheap lawn mower for £50 from Focus and take it back to B&Q where it is priced at £100 - you expect them to give you a credit note for £100 do you??

No receipt - no refund sounds fair to me!

Nope, you are only entitled to a refund if it is faulty, and even then only with proof of purchase. Stores returns policy are purely goodwill, they are not obliged to.
