BabeeCard - Anyone have one / know about it?

I'm not bothered about what it's like as a card, I want to know more about the discount club. It says you can get 8% off at Argos and 5% off Sainsburys petrol as a couple of examples. This sounds quite good and it seems that once you've bought the card (£14.95), you get a year's subscription to this discount club where it appears you basically buy gift cards at the respective discounts.

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this as it sounds pretty good. Would get the £14.95 back just off filling up with fuel for a few weeks.

Thanks!

Not looking good so far, 15 minutes on the phone to customer services and they still don't know how long it takes to get a gift card once you've ordered it. They're still not sure if you even get a gift card even though I've pointed them to their web-site where it says you do!

Babee card is a pre-pay credit card that you load with cash (like breadcard etc) - once you have a babee card you then have access to a site that you can purchase discounted vouchers/giftcards from (for instance buy £50 worth of vouchers and pay £45 for them) the site also offers a lot of discounts from other partners.

Thanks, there's something I don't get though. Why would Argos give 8% off when they give nothing via quidco?

Oh, and 45 minutes on the phone and they've said that you get the gift card within 3 days of ordering it and if they go bankrupt your money is safe up to £1000 apparently, although I've got to look into that more as I bet the money is protected for them, not for me!

Argos are one of the offers on there, the company have a lot of sites and very good deals with a lot of high street stores. The babee card is not a gift card, it is a pre-pay credit/debit card that you topup. The gift cards are the same as the vouchers, once you have a babee card account you then have access to the site where you can then purchase these discount gift cards and vouchers which can then be used to shop instore. This is not a cashback site/card, you do not get the discounts by just using the babee card to buy from these stores, you just get the discounts by buying the vouchers at a discount rate - so you would buy £100 worth of argos for £92 or £100 of comet for £90, and there are lot of other other offers on there, watch out for Christmas deals aswell. Hope I'm helping? If you have any more questions just ask!!

Great help, thanks!

So what's to stop me getting one and buying loads of vouchers and selling them to my friends either for face value to save them having to buy the card for £14.95, or selling them at a slight profit?

I still don't get why they offer 8% at Argos when AFAIK there's no other way of getting 8% off at Argos, why is it exclusive to them?

Oh, the other question I had was about buying on-line. They said to me that you could get a code to use on-line to get the discount. I assume that means they basically give you the gift card number rather than actually sending you the gift card. Do all the retailers take gift cards on-line?

hi benjimoron, it is not a gift card, it's a prepaid card. on my discount portal there is a selction of online discounts which you get a code for and also vouchers that you purchase. i suppose you could buy them and sell them to your friends at a profit but you would have to put a lot of money on your babeecard to purchase them with.

as far as i am aware the waitrose vouchers can be used on ocado.com and johnlewis.com but the sainsbury's vouchers and ASDA Gift Card are to be used in-store. Argos give 8% as well as Boots and Waitrose so it's not just Argos giving a discount.

quidco requires you to shop online to get the discount, as a mother i am sometimes out and like to use my vouchers at the retailers rather than have to go online and shop.

Thanks for the info mothergoose and welcome to hukd!

I know that the actual card is a pre-paid card and not a gift card, but to get the discount you need to buy gift cards. It just sounded too good to be true that you could get 10% off everything at Comet, and 8% at argos is pretty good too.

thanks for my welcome :-) am getting the hang of these forums now. there is thread on this card on moneysavingexpert.com as well.

it does sound too good to be true and i suppose it depends what you want the savings for, i only use my card to save on groceries and will probably use it to save on christmas food and presents.

they offer a money back promise which is why i bought the card, they claim if you haven't saved the initial purchase price £14.95 within 12 months of using the card then they will refund the purchase price. if i were you i would get the card and use it for petrol and see how much you can save.

i am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth as Christmas is coming up and inflation continuing to rise :-)

good luck

Think I'll give it a go, probably not for the petrol as I use a tesco credit card so get 7.2% back in deal vouchers which I'd prefer to 5% discount at Sainsburys.

Other than that it sounds great and discounts greater than I can get elsewhere. Hoping to be able to use comet vouchers on-line to combine with quidco!

Once again, thankyou for all your help.

Hi there, I hope you have had your questions answered. There are no online codes, the only vouchers that can be used online are John Lewis, the rest you have to take to store at the moment. It would be up to you what you do with the vouchers once you have them aswell! It is well worth the initial fee as you get access to these vouchers which you can then save money on all year, if you are very good with your financial planning you can save on all your grocery shopping, petrol, gifts, clothing, electrical items etc by purchasing the vouchers prior to your weekly shops. Even if you only use it to save money at Christmas you would still make back that initial fee!!

I'm not too impressed by the customer service so far, initially they told me that I'd get an automatic discount using the Babeecard, I then pointed them to their web-site and they realised that you have to buy gift cards first. I asked about on-line and they said that if there's a web-site then you can use your discount there too, just they'd give you a code rather than sending you gift cards. Is the code not just the same code as on the gift card? ie if I bought a gift card from Tesco I could use it in-store or on-line. Not sure how it works with other web-sites but I know it works on Tesco. Do Argos not let you use gift cards on-line?

It sounds like you have been given the wrong information there - there is an hmv e-voucher which I guess is what they were refering to but everything else is sent out to you. Sadly Tesco is not one of the supermarkets covered, asda and sainsburys are on there though - the giftcard will only work in shops except john lewis which you can use instore or online, argos also you have to go to the store with the vouchers. There are two comapanies working together here, one runs the babee card and one runs the discount site, it sounds like you may have been speaking to the wrong customer services team!! The direct number to call is 01865876696 for any queries you have on the discounts. There are also other deals on there with suppliers and regular offers going on - worth the initial fee for certain!

for us mummies out there, savings for our children alone will be worth the inital fee. i am not so fussed about myself but my child is growing at an alarming rate and he is starting to eat me out of house and home too.

i am quite excited about saving this christmas as i have not had the opportunity before to be able to access so many discounts in one place. just going to take a bit of planning i think. really helps that the big supermarkets have other departments too.
