hi i was wondering if anybody knows any online shops that sell baby milk at discount prices if you buy in bulk or anything like that.

Can't believe how much the prices have gone up in the past 2 years.

Don't think they are allowed to, they all have to charge roughly the same price, it's to stop people changing baby formula whenever there is a special offer on.

I think the price of baby milk is pretty much universal
#3
I think baby milk is not allowed to be discounted by supermarkets ect as the goverment think it would make less people breastfeed, i may be wrong but i'm sure i heard something like that

No you are right. I work for trading standards dept at ASDA and they are not allowed to Promote, discount or even put a roll back stick on the SEL as it is illgal.. So prices are gonna be pretty much the same everywhere....

there is 74p difference between boots and tesco price on hipp organic!
#6
The Sma Toddler Milk 12mth+ (900g) is on offer in ASDA (2 for £10) but as above, most of the time they are not advised to promote powder milk. Also you cannot collect any NEctar points when you do purchase them

They aren't allowed to discount prices of milk that is manufactured and intended to replace breast milk.

Breast feeding will save you a fortune.

I think its ridiculous.

Some mothers just cannot supply demand, why they don't bring in some form of Prescription based discount that the health visitor or doctor could sign off I don't know.

some just can be bothered though, if they said they were going to start doing that surely it would go against promoting the 'breast is best'

I'm sure Tesco have the SMA on promotion at the moment... I went instore yesterday and saw them???

No it was for your baby to give the best start possible :? but i usually get frowned upon for my firm thoughts on breastfeeding, usually by those who 'choose' not to, I always wonder why you would not want to give your baby the best start in life that you can even if they only get the colostrum, I do respect that you have the choice it is after all your body, but thats my view anyway

+1 I had a really hard time trying it too never made it past 8 weeks with any of my three, I got one problem sorted out only to have another, then it starts affecting you mental health, thats when its time to say breast is no longer best for baby or me, at least you know you tried:thumbsup:

I could of cried every time for the first month of breast feeding, i'm not sure i would go there again.

I really am shocked that you think that people who choose not to breastfeed dont want to give their baby the best start in life, done no harm to my kids!! :w00t:

Yeah, I know that - my point was that there is not supposed to be promotions on substitutes so that people are encouraged to at least attempt breast feeding.

I dont think formula is bad, just not the best, giving your baby another animals milk, just doesnt seem right to me, but its is seen as the norm, although its good that some formulas are getting closer to breast milk now, so those that cant dont have to feel so bad about it, well hopefully anyway

I didnt say its does any harm :? I certainly hope not , mine where bottle fed in the end too as breastfeeding didnt work out for us. but I know I tried to give my baby the best start I could, and I personally dont understand why people choose not to but like I said just my view on it, some people have strong views on it for or against and thats just mine

Omg, missed that thread I think, I'm a complete failure then, bottle thread my son 17 yrs ago ( and he's still alive, not managed to poison him yet ) and my lo now and fully intend to bottle feed the one due in Aug too, every parent should have the choice, luckily my mw's and healthcare professionals have never tried to force bf down my throat, or have made me feel terrible or a failure for choosing to bottle feed, believing I suppose that as a well informed, educated woman the descision I make is the best for me and my baby. I applaud all mothers, whatever feeding choice they make, a newborn is hard but rewarding work, and personally would never try to make another mother feel inadequate for the choices they make, but then I try not to have a "high horse" to fall off lol:-D

I think the issues around breastfeeding will always provoke strong arguments.

For me the saddest thing is the lack of support and help mothers get, which in my opinion is why so many are unable to continue b/f, even when they quite often want to.

Health visitors are far to quick to suggest topping babies up with milk, especially at the six week growth spurt, even though the obvious result of that is that your own milk supply will reduce and make breastfeeding even harder still!!

I have struggled through and am happily still b/f my 9 month old, but I don't know anybody else (in my mum groups, nct etc) who still is. When I was struggling in the early days the only advice I got was to top up with formula if I was struggling :x luckily I didn't listen and it got easier and is the best thing I've done.

Anyway, I shall not go on!:)
