depends what you wanna do and how you wanna live mate, you can go for cheap or you can go and spend a crap load...........as a .rough guide give yourself about £1000 a month after flights etc.....return flight bangkok or Kl or somewhere set you back around £350/400 return depending what time year you go

can do it for cheaper if you plan and budget yourself well

i cannot recommend it enough for any young or old person

If it's your 1st time then NZ, AUS & Thailand are all very backpacker friendly. Cheapest there is Thailand followed by NZ, all with stunning scenery and friendly people.

you can stay in the back packer area of kho sarn road. prices have risen alittle but you can get a cheap comfortable place, cheap food is cheap. and great to meet up with lots of diffrent people from australia germany swiss denmark english thai

good luck.. plan and book all your flights , trains , ect before you go so you know what your total spending budget is

Wouldnt mind taking in a bit of Thailand...

just fancy something different and see different laces of the world and different cultures.

thats off season for flights as its summer here......prices start going up when it starts getting cold here:) will be slightly quiter as well as a lot of backpackers go after uni/school has finished

you can get cheap flightrs all over asia really with air asia and a couple of others bit like easy jet but a bit cheaper.

personally for a month i would just stiuck with thailand , vietnam, cambodia etc as they are next to each other and plenty to do and see, a month will be gone in no time and youll be trying to extend visas and flights etc before you know it

It will probablys be next summer time i go now. Due to the fact of saving. I have around £1000 now but would like to buy things over there, and also gives more time to plan.

dcx - that sounds great! Where was your favourite place?

I did
Hong Kong - 3 days
Australia - 4 weeks
New Zealand - 1 weeks
USA - 3 weeks.

Stayed with family in Australia, so free accomodation, paid for the rest, spent £3700 over the 9 weeks. But I stayed in hotels in America which was pricey. Flights were £1080 for the between country ones. Then had a few internals.

New Zealand and Vegas.

that sound amazing!!!!!!

I went with my girlfriend, we ended up spending around £500 each per month. We did one year - Thailand>Laos>Cambodia>Vietnam>China (all the way from Vietnam up to Beijing and back down to Hong Kong). We did that all with no flights, just trains and buses. We then flew to Oz where we bought a campervan and drove through the red centre. Then onto Bali>Lombok>Singapore>Malaysia>Thailand. More recently I have spent a year living in South Korea, where I also had the opportunity to go to Japan, Borneo, and back to Malaysia and Bangkok.

So I'm happy to answer any questions about it. It's one of my favourite subjects!

I would say China was probably the highlight of the entire trip. Really recommend going there.
