A lot of people picking up Xbox ones with the latest deals, just be aware there is a **** storm happening as people are going through 2 to 4 consoles to try to find one without the fault..

The fault appears to be a loud whining noise from the hard drive when the console is on the home page.

if you buy one check the serial number and if you have one change it over before you even open it

Models that appear to be affected are

Someone made a list over at the official Xbox Support forum. So far:

The list:

Noise:

1407x

1408x

1411x

1414x

1420x

1433x

1416x

1425x

1427x

1432x

1424x

1434x

Model 1540?

No noise:

1419x

Doubtful:

1426x

Seems legit, there's a thread on the Xbox support forum http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/xbox_one_support/f/4269/p/1827902/4936617.aspx

Also some HUKD users have also fallen foul http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox-one-destiny-319-00-with-code-tesco-direct-1990165?page=2#post22716606

Legit like the Hundreds of Fake reviews on Amazon ?, seeing how far the fanboy's are willing to go I don't believe anything when it comes to game consoles unless verified by the manufacturer.

Linking to Xbox support !, it's not like those same fanboy's would just register and post right.

Here is a random one from the PS4 support forums

Issues with ejecting PS4 discs
139 pages and counting (Must be a big bad batch because there are more posts being added)

The Xbox forum users have huge gamerscores and xbox game histories, why would they lie?
The HUKD users on here all bought from the Tesco deal, are you saying they are all liars?

You don't need to defend everything you know.

I'm not saying it's made up btw. I'm just saying the scare tactics of those that would like to see Microsoft suffer are evident all around the internet and really prevalent on Neonaf whereby it's users claim total hardware failure in all batches over the slightest issue.

Whoever manufactures the HDD in the Xbox One may just need to supply Ms with a firmware update if the issue is indeed HDD access noise.

They may have saved people from buying a dodgy console, what are they doing wrong exactly?!
(By dodgy console I mean a damaged one, not the XBOX ONE it self)

I don't think there will be many tbh, most of the users on here managed to get theirs swapped. It's not like they don't work, just a bit noisy.

Unfortunately some users on here don't like to see anything they perceive as negative towards the Xbox One.
Don't visit Neogaf myself, I prefer VG247, prefer news to rumours lol

They are not doing anything wrong if simply reporting the facts with no other agenda but the amount of crap on that site tarnishes honest efforts.

I have model 1540. From a normal distance all I can hear is fan noise. I put my head next to it and can hear a bit of a strange noise but its very faint..

it is a very PS4 site, I will give you that, they tend to go with who they perceive as the better console, last Gen they were very anti- sony

Hopefully. I'll try again a bit later when everything is quieter. I had noticed the power supply was making a noise previously I think. Hm

Those above are not model numbers they are Lot/Date Numbers. or Batch Numbers i have

Model 1540: Lot Number: 1421x

All i get is Fan noise, which is quieter than my PS4 btw, and i can hear disc access reading but the normal kind and i suspect that is from the BD drive not the HDD.

I think it works

14 = Year
21 = Week Of Year Made

I know Im a bit late on this one, but where is everyone finding the 14** numbers? I have looked under the console and in system settings and all I can seem to find is the model number 1540.

My Xbox one model 1540, lot number 1444x makes a fan grinding sound but stops after a few minutes of being on. I'm not worried.
