I just wanted to vent as there no-one else home to complain about it too!!

I tried to pay for something at my local shop and it was declined.

I phoned the bank who said that there had been some possible fraudulent transactions, they then told me that someone had tried one for £1600 & another for £1050! Luckily for me I've been spending way too much lately & had no where near that amount. There are several transactions that I didnt recognise & they said that they will reimburse me if it proves to be fraudulent. I'm hopin it shouldnt be too hard to prove as I've never been to harrogate or New York!!

I've only used this card for payments over the internet once as its new. After reading loads of the threads on here about play.com it worried me as that is the only place I have used it!

All this hassle & the DVDs still havent arrived!! :O)

Looks like it will have to be the Bank Of Nan!!

Most card fraud does not come from internet usage but from copied card details when you use it in shops, restaurant and the like.

Mine was cloned in Primark, I was stood there and realised what was happening, managed to call bank while still in store and had them freeze card and issue new one, tthink they contacted police to. Told me to leave store and not confront staff. Its much more likely to be cloned instore than online I think.

Harrogate is the main authorisation centre for uk that means someone in a store has phoned to check authorisation, you will be ok as they can tell if it is your card when they look into it......the fake card leaves a trail........I bet you're pleased they are checking now?! The most common places are shops, restaurants and petrol stations, they often use an extra swipe machine or something attached to the card reader, like I said , you will be fine, just a bit of a nuisance.

They took the card away from till as they said bank had asked for verification, then they took it to an area out of view of surveillance, where they allegedly phoned my bank but actually put card into another small machine. Then they came and asked for verification details such as date of birth etc. I asked to speak to bank but they wouldnt let me, so I refused verification details.

Thanks everyone for your assurances!

Iv used it at tescos, somerfield, halfords, farm foods & at chiquitos.

I knew something bad was going to happen!! It always happens around my birthday!! 3 dogs have died over the yrs all within days of my birthday, relatives in hospital, etc. All major bad things on or around my birthday!!

Oh well the current dogs can breathe a sigh of relief as it wont be them this yr!!

have had my card verified before, if I have used it alot more than usual or out of normal routine purchases, but you always get to speak to them and should be able to confirm who they are. And they should never need to put your card into a new machine. :)

If you need money in the meantime speak to your bank - they should be able to arrange for you to withdraw some money.

Mine were good about this too, but I had to go into branch with ID to get cash,

I will if it takes too long but I have to get 4 buses & take 3 hours just to get to the branch then home again!!!:x I say 3 hrs as that is how long it takes with waiting between buses!

It was easy when I opened the account but they have since closed the branch down & the only way I can get there is by bus as hubbie doesnt finish work in time to get to the bank which closes at 3pm!

I doubt it was Play - Play is solid. Have you got up to date anti-virus software and a good firewall? Do you download much?

Could have been a trojan/keylogger.

I just had £800 taken from my Barclaycard and spent at Virgin Mobile. Barclaycard say I "should" get my money back within 10 days "if the transactions are proved to be fraudulent" - they then tried to sell me ID theft cover which wouldnt cover me for the £800 anyway!!

Good old Barclays, always trying to sell you something, no wonder their profits are sky high.
