I used my debit card yesterday at morrisons for the amount of £42 + £30 cashback.
My card was declined (even though i had enough funds in to cover) I tried again another 3 times only to be declined each time. My credit card was accepted no problem.

Ive since checked my bank and there is a pending transaction going to morrisons for the £72! Barclays say they cant do anything just sit and wait to see if Morrisons claim the money, I have all 4 reciepts to say the money was declined so why have they tried to take it?

Anyone know what I can do to get that money back in sooner as im now short for the week!

Go into the branch tomorrow and explain the situation to them.

Dont worry...

The transaction will appear as pending, but should disappear without the funds leaving your account.

This sort of thing has happened to me before. Plus, if the worst should happen you have the receipts, so nothing to worry about (easy to say I know, lol)

I have had a similar issue with my bank before for a transaction that was cancelled before it was claimed (this was nearer £1000 though). You can force your bank to wipe it, but it's tricky and you have to lie a bit about not being able to feed your child or some other excuse for them to feel sorry for you.

My one was pending for 3 days and I was getting peed off.

correct-morrisons have "claimed" the money-they still would have to "confirm" the transaction-if they dont do so within 3/4 days the money is no longer claimed.

Just ask barclays to extend your overdraft in the mean time to help you out, or use your credit card, you have 28 days interest free on that

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago with Tesco its an outstanding authorisation and will disappear after a few days. The annoying thing is that you will not be able to draw on those funds as basically Morrisons are 'claiming it' even though they have not intentions of taking this money!
Tesco or my bank (Barclays) could do nothing or would not do anything so I just had to sit and wait for the funds to show in my account again.
Needless to say I kicked up a fuss and was given compensation from Tesco eventually! I too was short and played on it big time!

Thanks all, have left you all some rep.

Looks like I will just have to use the credit card until the funds go back in then, which according to Barclays can be up to 7 working days!

NOT impressed with Morrisons at all and will be complaining!

Thanks again

EDIT: Keystrokes, what kind of compensation did Tescos give you?

£25! and yes Morrisons have taken the money csiman (its their authorisation), its called a ghost transaction and although it not actually money, it is stopping nono2522 getting funds out of their account.

I got that compensation from tesco too when they did it on me a while back, morrisons haven't actually taken the money,it's as you say a ghost transaction but isn't taken,it's still in your account but has a hold on it

Exactly, although the money remains the property of the OP, it is being held until Morrisons claim it (which they obviously won't)

Really annoying, and I would certainly complain. At the very least I am sure they will send you a shopping voucher

Cheers for the rep

they haven't taken the money, theres an authorisation there for them to take it but they haven't got the money.
