Been with Barclays about 3 years now, for some reason i am paying 6 quid a month for my bank account, ive never used any of the so called benefits , is anyone doing the same? can i just cancel and go back to a free account, paying over 200 quid over 3 years is a bit silly for a bank account

Very naive of me and need to get it sorted

if you never used any of the benefits for 3 years, then yes, i think you should switch back to the free accounts. I have always used free accounts, because i know i wont benefit from the benefits (and its free of course)

Switch to another account that will give you money for switching. I'm with firstdirect, I got £100 for switching, the account is free if you pay in over £1500 a month, and if you don't like it after 6 months they'll give you another £100 and help you go to another bank.

That's just one of the many tho, try http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts

this is a good idea in theory but if you are like me and have an overdraft in the account then they hike up the interest rates if you want to stop paying the account fee.....

When I opened my account that is exactly what I was paying because I thought that it would be better for my credit rating. Then my partner got offered a loan and he doesnt pay any monthly fee, so I went back to my bank and applied for the same loan and was refused even though I know my credit rating is good and clean. So I said I wanted to cancel the £6.00 fee and they said sure, A few clicks later the adviser said "it's done".
I was not using the special offers and benefits anyway. So ask for it to be stopped and they will.
