prob means that their system has crashed somewhere along the line. They will usually give you some Bee-ess answer so you will never find out what really happened. :-(

Barclays are generally a joke. I've had a string of problems with them: their customer service is appalling. I'm going to be closing my (abandoned) account with them soon.

Don't believe a word Barclays have collapsed, excessive Third World debt and written off loans have brought their downfall.

If I was a Barclays customer I'd be getting down to my local branch and withdrawing my money pretty quickly............................

really? may i ask for more details why? as ive been with barclays since i was 11yrs old!
Im now 22, and never had any major problems at all, and find their fraud detection department very good as well (who ring me up when i make lots of payments for 99p, or go on a spending spree etc).

But am interested as when i graduate i will probably change banks to keep an interest free overdraft for a few years more. But obviously service and less problems are always welcomed, thus dont mind changing my bank

+1 at least 6 times in the last 12 months they have "locked" my card/account due to "fraudulent activity" .....in every instance it was a false positive as I confirmed all the transactions with them.

And the only way I noticed that my card was locked was when I went to pay bills or buy stuff online. I gave them dogs abuse about what they expected me to do if I was out trying to fill my car with fuel and needed to pay for that fuel to get home!! lol....they are an absolute disgrace.

on the one instance I needed them to actually do what they were supposed to do, I had a fraudulent transaction on my account and they never even noticed it, nor stopped it either. I had to whinge, complain and moan at them for months in order for them to give me the money back due to their incompetence and hopeless anti-fraud department.

on a business / corporate side, not brilliant, we deal with them, and get some pretty shocking rate, i think we're getting 0.05% interest on our deposit account...

Customer services do take thier time on replying to issues.

Also we're due £1750 in overdraft fees, which they've overcharged for the last 7 quarters.

(charged 250 per quarter, and realised we're paying 1000 a year anyway...)

I've been with them since I was 14 (now i'm 19), and i've had some pretty bad experiences. From them cancelling standing orders at their own will, to them cancelling my debit card. I do think that the problems were compounded because my local branch is a joke. That didn't really help. I eventually abandoned my loyalties (my whole family is with them), and joined Natwest, only to be joined by my dad a couple of months later. Now we've decided to file an official complaint, and I'm planning on closing my account once that mess is cleared up!

i had it once it happened to me in currys but luckily the guy behind the counter was really helpful, let me use the phone in the office to ring barclays and during that time barclays rung me on my mobile and confirmed the payment and then authorised my card there and then!

Which sounds good but only good becuase of the empathy from a retailer. They did call me on my mobile and stated to me that my card would be available to use within 45 minutes of them "unlocking" it.....2 hours later I still couldnt use the card and had to call them until it was sorted. luckily I have only had to do this once.

seriously....they are useless.:)

ah maybe so, ive had 4 local branches since the account was opened!
And the one in Blackheath was probably the best, especially after sat there talking to one of the help desk advisors for about 15mins as her daughter was selling stuff on ebay and told her to come on here as no fees, more trustworthy people (most the time) and could also find some good deals new and second hand for them both!

Ive never had problems like you, think myself lucky the few minor incidents ive had!

wow that does suck...my payment went through after about 10mins after i got off the phone as the retailer was nice enough to hold the item for me whilst i went and got a drink and came back.

Right so suggestions for a new bank when i graduate? So it will be a graduate account

Haha, well I guess your one of the lucky ones! When I joined Natwest I was very much overwhelmed at how trouble-free banking could be! Sounds desperate...but true

Go for Natwest, they love Graduates/Students

(can't really justify it any further, but that sounds good enough for me) :p
