Which ones better, just feel like going for a blackberry this time, but unsure which one to get. I know 8900 has better camera, screen resolution etc but has the trackball, which can stop working after some time, but the 8520 has a trackpad. Can anyone help me decide?

DO NOT get the 8520, we use them at work and they are dog toffee, the back keeps falling off as its a really poor design and they feel really plasticy, the 8900 on the other hand is a much more solid device, thus far we have had very few problems with regards the trackballs on any of the models we have used (8800,8310,8110 etc) hope this helps

go for the 8900 then. it feels much more solid and looks better. i have has both 9000 and 8900 and never had a trackball issue

+1 We have them at work and to give you some idea, the 8520 comes in at £30 the 8900 is £130.
Much better build quality and as already said, the trackballs went on the 8800 range and the 83xx's no problems since
