Did anyone watch this last week on BBC1?
Has 5 "celebs" who sleep rough for 10 days.

Halfway through Episode 1 of 2 and it's, i dunno not quite sure what to make of it.

Quite a chilling programme in some respects given the economic climate, their for the grace of God and all that.......

I don't think they'd volunteer if they couldn't!

I wasn't watching it for that reason, nor commentating on that side of it.
I know folks cannot go back and i know this is perhaps not the best vehicle but it's more realistic than a drama whilst not being as real as someone is unfortunately homeless but how real could that be edited either?

i was homeless just like that once and i was appaled by the behaviour of some of the celebs

Wow, well please don't take any of mine, or other's comments lightly. Mine wasn't even from the start just surprised in some ways not to see a thread about the programmes given what other stuff is posted in here
I haven't seen both shows yet, Lord whatever he is, is proving to be a plum!

i saw it and i know someone who was homeless for 3 years. He actually preferred the streets as hostels were so bad apparently. shouldnt be happening.

Realism.......dump them on the streets in a foreign country with none of their celeb contacts and just an emergency phone...then go back and find them after a week, if they've managed to last

Have they got phones? And i hate to coin the phrase used around these parts, but i am being serious, did they have emergency and back up? I can see they have a camera man with them but.......

The camera guys are equipped with phones and at their sides 24/7......I watched the 1st series with the kids of rich parents and it was ridiculous

Guess it makes sense when you put it like that, doesn't make it quite so real.....hmmm

completely agree

Why didn't they film real homeless? would have been much cheaper but then of course no-one would have watched it....

Think it highlighted how blinkered the "celebs" are really- the way they were reacting to a scenario that wasn't actually real- ie the cameramen were nearby at all times, they acted like they'd be dumped in downtown Miami.

They knew the area, they weren't running away from anything, they had nothing genuine to be scared of, they had company and they had light at the end of the tunnel yet still threw tantrums :)

They've done shows on homeless in the past, which I've watched. I haven't watched these celeb pretend-homeless shows, but I'll wager that nothing in them would be as striking as some of the stories covered in earlier shows. Like the 40-something woman who'd been left an absolute mess from spending decades sniffing glue, taking drugs and drinking foul alcohol, and her telling of the time that she got attacked by a group of young men who raped her with a broom handle. I guess the BBC wants to keep some sort of balance, to make it at least half paletable to the average public member.

It cracks me up, dumping them in downtown Miami would be an interesting watch :whistling:
