Despite ongoing cutbacks, the BBC have managed to find a healthy budget to launch a brand-new channel, dedicated to, and for, viewers in Scotland.

It will retain some mainstream BBC content, but with a more niche audience to appeal to, do you have any suggestions on programmes to fill the remaining schedule? Any ideas for new shows related to Scottish cooking, humour, soap operas, chat shows, documentaries or current affairs? What about the return of any shows that were popular with UK-wide audiences back in the '70s or '80s etc?

Hopefully the dedicated 9pm News is impartial, and the 80 new journalist posts will not be used to unfairly promote the break up of the Union, or other political agendas.

So they get rid of BBC 3 and now they make a channel just to see badly played sports and repeats of Rab C Nesbitt.

Usually a big fan of BBC channels but not this one.

So they say they're making cuts but the truth is they have massively overpaid presenters with no talent.
They've sunk to low depths in the quality of their programmes following ITV & Sky and this is typical arrogance or pampering to retain some respect to the Scots?

I get that most people around here hate the Scots and shall be angered at this funding, but keep in mind...

£320m was raised from the licence fees in Scotland last year.

The Great British Bake Off will get £25m

BBC Scotland, a national channel, will receive £30m

Spot on regarding the football - thoroughly depressing watching that crap.

Thank God for the best football league in the world right next door.

Sorry to see the foxes in such dreadful freefall, still got a lot of family there and it's hurting them badly, all of them in a state of bewilderment.

The channel is not for you, its for the people of Scotland.

Don't worry, you're still getting most of the money rounded up in Scotland spent on red, white and blue programming.

Better idea would be a channel for London - would be unpopular but rational given the distinct nature of London, number of people and revenue raised in London.

Good grief, JB, you're going to have to back that up.

Really hard to believe such a thing is true.

Not casting aspersions - just find it hard to believe.

Can't. It was mostly paedophiles and sex offenders hosting those shows. BBC need to maintain their coverup for a little longer yet.

Oh ok, London are all dishonest license fee dodgers but the Scottish are 100% honest and upstanding...

Yeah ok.

Not sure it needs its own channel, aren't there already local versions of the bbc for the different regions?

why is Scotland getting special treatment?

Been living in English/Scots community for long enough to know that's not true.
I love my friends and count myself well blessed to have so many friends; they are my friends first and foremost, whether they're Scot's, English, or whatever is of no matter.
Friends are as good as family, and sometimes better.

LoL. Someone's a little sensitive today! I wasn't suggesting Scotland was any more honest than London. I'm saying we have definite figures for revenue raised in Scotland but we don't know how much is raised in London. Using the gross population as a guide is crazy as not everyone is an adult, not everyone has or uses a tv, some people have exemptions, lots of households only require one license and lastly, some people don't pay. Try to think before reacting. ;)

Scotland is a country

There is barely any Scottish content on Scottish TV.

Tell me, whats so special in wanting content aimed at your country, when you are providing hundreds of millions in funding, but getting peanuts back.

The funding for the new channel is a joke, chump change, yet still people are **** at Scots getting any funding.

could also have 'swimming with basking sharks' basically get a celebrity, stick em in a cage, chain it to the back of the Brodick ferry.
