Hi All,

Just thought I would warn everyone to be very careful of BE broadband's T+C's if looking into selecting a new broadband provider.

I have been relatively pleased with the service provided by BE over the year or so I was with them until I came to cancel. I decided to go over to Sky broadband as it was £8 cheaper per month. When I came to cancel my BE service, I was informed that I either had to give 3 months notice (!!!) or pay an express cancellation charge of £40. I find this pretty ridiculous for a company that likes to pride itself on having no minimum contract. The reason they don't need a contract is they sting you to leave whenever you decide to !

I contacted BE and asked them to waive the fee but they have refused so I'll try and make sure other people don't have the same problem.

The 3 months notice has always been in the t&c. Why are you blaming Be when it is you who didn't read the t&c properly when you signed up?

Definitely, people who sign up to Contracts that they don' t read before hand have only themselves to blame, fools.

Agreed.

I've always known its 3 months. (Except in cases of migrating to 02). Not sure why you need to be careful - unless this post is only for those who dont read their T&Cs?

BE is supposed to be a no minimum contract service, this is how they market themselves. Now true, I should have seen this clause in the T&C's when I signed up, but they are effectively committing you to a minimum 3 month contract, hardly what they are advertising !

Also, don't forget that when you cancel your contract, you need to send you modem/router back (otherwise it's a £100 fee). So if you use your own device, don't throw/give away/sell your BE Box.

But overall, my favourite ISP nevertheless.

You actually read all the T&Cs when signing up for anything? You must be a solicitor! :giggle:

You don't even need to read the T&C, it even states the 3 months notice in the FAQs:

have to admit not many of us read T&C's, not if you want time to have a life anyway, but sure does seem contradictory.

No minimum term contract means that, not no min term but 3 mths notice, that is definitely a minimum term so a call to the advertising standards would be in order i think followed by investigating the legal obligations of plain english usage. consider contacting TS

Yes I do. I spent 2 hours reading the T&C for my holiday insurance the other day, but then again I may be a little sad!:oops:

To the op thanks for the info not with BE but its good to know.:thumbsup:

Not really.

You can leave any time you like.... after 1 day if you wanted! You have to pay a cancellation charge. I doubt you'd get anywhere complaining as you can leave!

of course you can leave it's not a prison, but.... the implication, (and implication is valid legally) is that the statement of no minimum term is "No minimum financial term" because after all you are paying for the service by the month not by the megabyte,
about as dodgy advertising as you can get IMHO.

Well actually you are paying per megabyte as it has a usage policy so you are paying a set amount for the total amount of the fair usage policy.
