Ramadan Mubarak to all.

What's this:- Ramadhan Mubarak supposed to mean?

BTW, isn't it meant to be Ramadan?
#5
Mubarak means 'blessed', and Ramadan is the month (where muslims fast).

Its like saying 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy Holidays' or 'Happy New Year' etc.

Ok....with all due respect...

I feel if you have a thought that goes against a certain religion the post gets removed, Its not that i'm being "disrespectful" or "abusive", But I'm sure I wouldn't be allowed to create another religious thread without it getting locked.

Nobody actually knows my skin colour/race either.......

Hi Iom - maybe you should start a thread in comments/suggestions forum rather than posting in this thread.... What you're suggesting is a much wider issue than the original post (and probably something worth a SENSIBLE discussion about ) but I don't think it should be in this thread.

People - enough!!! This thread is not for discussion of forum policy - any more posts will be removed. If you care about it this strongly, please do as Gari suggests above!

if you dont mind me asking, how long do you fast for?
[helper]#17
I understand its dawn till dusk but that in this enlightened age they get given official times for start and finish. The other thing that people generally aren't aware of is that fasting is more easier if Ramadan is in the winter months due to the shorter days....

Apologies to any Muslims if I've got this wrong
#18
Nope gari189, you're absolutely correct! Apparently around the time of the London olympic games, Ramadan will be happening too, so those are going to be HARD (long days!)

Hope the fasts are going well for everyone

Is that for religious purpose too ?
If so why ???

With regard to religious purposes, fasting is intended to teach self discipline, self control and patience to name a few things. Food is seen as the biggest need of a person and by abstaining from food allows one to achieve the above attributes as if you can control this need, any need can be controlled

Also it allows for one to be grateful for what they actually receive (fasting of course makes one hungry and when they break fast they realise how hard it is to go without food) - thus increasing ones gratitude

Also to the question before, as with all languages, words when they are translated into english from arabic, spelling sometimes differs.

Ramadhan is an arabic word but is also sometimes seen spelt ramadan.

Hope this helps :)

Sorry -my opinion is that is pointless !
Eveyone needs food to live - fasting is just stupid and can harm your body too !
You dont need to do that just to gain discipline and self control-thats what your brain is for - if you cant have these things without fasting -some people may have to fast permanently and thats obviously not possible -therefore pointless

Everyone is entilted to their opinion.:)

We fast from dawn until dusk, currently a period of fourteen hours and i dont think that it is a long enough time for medical harm, we dont go days on end without food.

Fasting is not done for others but for ones ownself and not to show other people a particular point. It is done on an individual level. It is not needed to get self control, patience, discipline but is supposed to help. Of course, these things can be achieved without fasting but that is not the point

Ramadhan Mubarak everyone. Hope the young ones aren't finding it too hard.
Lol my bro keeps complaining each time he see's a food ad on TV..

As stated by mods and other members...
PLEASE don't post in this thread if you dont have anything good to say. I have neighbours either side of me who are Christians. At xmas they give us some chocolates/cards and sometimes even invite us to go to places like Alton Towers or other theme parks. We respect them equally when Eid(xmas for muslims) comes around. We give them our food we call them over on like any family members birthday etc.

Cut the long story short, Respect other people and their faiths and they will do the same. Some member mentioned that religion causes violence/death but i think the opposite.
If you believe in GOD or Allah then you will have that fear in your heart that i am being watched, am i doing the right thing? sometimes that little thought changes your mind from doing the wrong thing.

Anyway Ramadhan Mubarak to everyone.

The website has turned out better than expected, great way to passtime if food is on your mind

catwoman we are told to fast in our religion and we will do what it says. If people are really ill to fast they do not need and the elderly do not either all they need to do is give money to the poor.

pls dont talk about food in this thread lol we are fasting.

actually, i read somewhere that fasting is good for your body

fasting helps people realise what the poor have to go through everyday, it also prevents people from smoking, alot of my friends have stopped smoking after ramadhan too :)

so i think fasting isnt stupid at all and definately helps me and many others in alot of different ways.

hope that helps

regards

Who told you all that you had to fast?

God, its one of the 5 pillars of Islam

Like heck would i let anyone tell me what to do! God or not!
I dont see the point in fasting, i really dont,I cant see how starving our body off lifes essentials can prove anything. however i do respect peoples choices to do it.

I actually come from a * religious* back ground as my mother is a preacher,my moto on ALL religion is " each to there own as long as it does not entice improper behaviour OR gets rammed down peoples throat. I despise people knocking my door trying to " make me one of them". I believe people have a right to believe what they want. You wont know which religion was right until you die :giggle: personally as long as im greeted by Ryan Seacrest at the pearly gates of heaven im happy:giggle:

I dont see the harm on ALL religions being discussed, respect for diversity and all that.

fasting really does help you see how people without food are living.
