Beckenbauer blasts England

Franz Beckenbauer has accused England of playing "kick and rush" football and believes they are suffering for the lack of domestic players in the Premier League.

To be honest, i agree with all that he says.

He's right about the style of football we played in the first match, but he sounds distinctly like someone who hasn't watched any of our football in the last couple of years:thinking:

Nice to see the Germans getting the spite going early.....:-D

Going off the first game I agree entirely, it was pretty dismal as far as skill goes. However, we can play much better than that and can be a match for anyone on our day. Lets just hope our day comes around very quickly.

Same here.... you take the foreigners out of the Premier League and the amount of very good (let alone World Class) players would be shocking.

You only need to look at the youth teams of clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool.... even the 15/16 year old kids are from abroad. Until something is done by FIFA/UEFA/FA it's only going to get worse too.

I quite agree. Germany to win the World Cup!

teams should be allowed only so many none English in there side
as there is talent out there not getting the chance because of all the imports
this would help England field a stronger team

Carragher suggests it was not a coincidence that Germany hit the ground running given they were able to become accustomed to the lightweight World Cup ball in the Bundesliga last term thanks to their sponsorship tie-up with manufacturers adidas.

OMG, the ball is too round!! :whistling:

It's a conspiracy. There are secretly loads of little Lampards and Rooneys in the academies, but we bring in young foreigners instead.

It's hilarious - the clubs just do it because they hate English kids. They fatten them up and then break their ankles Misery-style.

England actually produces more highly-skilled young footballers than any other nation - but we just don't tell anyone.

Sssshh everyone, don't tell anyone:thumbsup:

This argument again? Really? If the English players were any good they would be in the side ahead of the non English! Also the English players that are in the sides should theoretically be getting better as they are playing better players! Basically the England side should be alot better than they are as on paper they are good, just together they are generally a bit rubbish.

It's not just us though, Inter won their league without a single Italian.

If anything I think the influx of foriegners has a positive effect in making it the best league in the world and getting kids interested.

It just means the English players have to be of a much higher standard to get into the top 4 teams which must be a good thing.

Without any foreigners the premiership would be rubbish.

Germany, Brazil, Argentina and other countries were using the world cup ball in their domestic leagues last year.

But due to marketing deals we had to use a different ball.

Even in the England friendlies against Mexico and Japan just before the World Cup we had to use a different ball due to marketing deals.

While you cant blame the ball totally, it does seem amazing that the England players had probably not played with that ball in a competitivie match before.

You would not expect a golfer to play with a new set of clubs in the Open, or a tennis player to play with a new racquet at Wimbledon.

However I have to say our progress very far in the World Cup looks unlikely. The Beckham injury, then Ferdinand injury, now King injury. No decent displays in the last few games, a lack of a settled formation, and now we cant decide which goalkeeper to use.

And we did so well in the qualifications.

The ball doesn't seem to be really a problem. The only thing I have noticed is a lot of free kicks and long range efforts going very high over the bar.

I don't think they'll get that far. :x

I noticed how Franz Beckenbauer waited until the Germans had played before he made this comment about England, also the French were not that good either but I have not seen any comment from him on their performance or has Michel Platini got something to do with it being that he is the EUFA president

Actually at Arsenal we have quite a few talented British players (you know about Wilshere and Ramsey but others like Eastmond and Emmanuel-Thomas are also coming through) but players over here are never encouraged to develop properly. All that's rewarded in England is being aggressive, even from a young age it's what most players are trained to do. Compare that with places like Spain where the emphasis is on control, technique, team play etc. That's why it's all well and good seeing some good English lads kick teams off the park in the Premier League, but when you move up to international level you get found out.

I like the expression "blasts". It implies something a lot stronger than what is actually said in most cases, including this.

Why no New Zealand - Slovakia thread??
