*This turned into a long one, sorry for the rant!*
Earlier today I received my 28 weeks/days later box set in the post. I saw it in-store in ASDA for £9.99 last week and thought it was a good price. Instinctively, though, I went straight onto find-dvd.co.uk on my mobile phone and saw it for £7.99 though Zavvi. An almost guaranteed cheaper price plus the possibility of Quidco cash-back through some sites has always swayed me towards buying from the net in preference. I don't mind the waiting time as I have DVDs for weeks anyway before getting round to watching them and I have accounts set up all the major on-line media retailers. I also rarely get a chance to go to high-street retail outlets other than ASDA.
Well the package arrived from Zavii today: damaged. The outer box was was a bit crumpled at the bottom and I thought "shame, but not a ruiner". Then I heard rattling and when I took one of the DVDs out the bottom of the case was shattered. This happened to me very recently with Play.com, too: a TV series I'd ordered for a friend arrived with similar damage. They were both sent in bubble envelopes and no other padding. At least HMV send theirs in a cardboard box and I've yet to receive a damaged DVD from them.
It doesn't seem worth the hassle to return the items and I'm close to quitting this Internet ordering malarky, unless it's from HMV.co.uk, who usually have close to the best price on more popular items. I've been a Play customer for years with over 50 orders under my belt (almost used to use them exclusively before discovering HMV.com and find-dvd.co.uk) but I think this is inexcusable. The Royal Mail are partly to blame but everyone knows how bad they can be. When purchasing an item my contract is with the retailer and I expect them to package the item appropriately.
Anyone else share my frustrations?
