Just looked on his profile and it says last activity = "17-04-2007 03:26"

Obviously this doesn't answer what was happened but it shows he hasn't been back to this site (signed in) for a week or so.
#5
maybe his net is down? if he has stored all details on it he may not be able to get in touch because of that
#6
maybe he done a runner............
#7
his absence from HUKD has been noticed as he's invariably adding useful comments to the PC threads that also interest me...hope all is OK..and that you get your purchase.
#8
I bought a number of items from him including

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58348

As I said in my original post - I am not suggesting a scam just a little concerned about the lack of contact and the no show of the goods. Thought someone on here may know him and be able to throw some light on the situation.
#9
Have you got his phone number? They should have been exchanged as part of the "verification" in the FS/FT rules :?
#10
Have reported him to the mods for not sending me goods to the value of 85 quid. Learnt my lesson the hard way with regards to getting the required/necessary info prior to a trade - thought his 'history' on the forum meant that he was genuine. Let others learn from my mistake!
#11
No Paypal?
[mod]#12
His PAYPAL account belonged to a Friend.

If a mod can somehow retrieve any of my deleted PM's then all his details will be in one of them from a previous trade. Any luck with the address i gave you hsbi?
#13
Cant you contact his friend or go down there on the bounce?
#14
£85!

I suppose you took a gamble with me and the Mio to, That was £90, I was only newish to the board to, Although we did exchange names/addresses, We didn't do the exchange landline telephone numbers (Although thats dodgy to as someone could give out a incoming voip number?)

Its bloody difficult to judge who's genuine and who isn't!!

I suppose thats the risk though, You get something cheaper than Ebay running the risk of not getting it at all.

I'd personally only ever buy the cheaper items unless i was able to collect, Unless the person has sold/bought high value items before.

I checked your feedback and you'd bought another high value item, So thats why i did deal in the end (because even from a sellers point, The buyer might not be genuine!)
[mod]#15
I can find the PAYPAL details i used if it's of any use.

Not seen beerman in a while.. Might be worth waiting a little? He always seemed a genuine nice bloke before.
Could be something important has happened putting a sale from his mind. Not exactly fair on you but there may be mitigating circumstances.

I agree.
You could always contact other buyers who have had dealings with him?

I have tried to contact those who dealt with him before - no luck. Tried to get details from the forum - again no luck. Bank transfered him the money - but the only detail I have that I can use is his/her surname Sutherland, and his general location, have tried to ring the 8/9 tel numbers in his/her general area - again no luck.

Had two or three pm's from him/her between paying, confirming the funds had transfered and the last appearance on the forums on 17 April.

Funds cleared on or around 2 April and I have waited until now almost 6 weeks later, in case there was indeed a problem. I now have to accept that I have been scammed!
#21
I wouldn't say this is a scam, How about phoning the bank you transfered the money to with his full name and asking if he has made any activity and explain your details.

It doesn't make sense why someone who appeared so decent disappeared off the forum.

Although it does make you think, What if something tragic did happen to someone, Would you ever find out?, Probably not.
#22
Have you got his bank details still? If you have you can write to the bank asking them to forward a letter to him however not sure it will help you too much

I sent you a PM with his details. Did you get it? His name definatley wasn't Sutherland from the details i had for him although the Paypal he used was registered to xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx. PM me again if you need the name and address i have.

Also thinking about it, if he did give me a false name and the name you have is correct then it doesn't bode well for his reputation and then you would have to assume a scam was the intention. I hope i'm wrong as every time i spoke to him he was a top bloke and hopefully nothing untoward has happened to him/his family.

Its probably not a good idea to post names, If something has happened, You wouldn't want your name put all over the forum.

It saddens me if beerman has scammed you..I had a really good relationship with him as he always appeared on the same threads as me..mostly IT subjects....I think he also used the name SFC beermonster before coming back as beerman1... but cannot be sure of that....maybe the mods will know for certain.

I just hope you get the goods you've paid for.

Have asked the mods for help - they have tried to contact him via email - but no luck. I thought I was on solid ground as I have been a member for some time and had seen/read beerman1's posts and thought he could be trusted.

I cannot see him contacting me now as its almost 7 weeks since the deal began.

Yes he appeared a genuine guy and very helpful to members wanting PC advice...I recall the deal ..was it for a Canon lide 25 scanner?..and I think you also took up his offer on a monitor?...I know very little about paypal but have you the option of raising a dispute?...or does that only apply to ebay purchases.

It was a bank transfer.

A scammer wouldn't stick around for that long, Help people and sell as many things as he did.

They'd just rip people off and leave, Doesn't make any sense.

I think an address is needed and a letter sent or a letter sent through the bank.
#33
The things is....7 weeks....no matter what problems someone might be having, whether they are personal ones or just having lost their internet connection, in 7 weeks if they were a decent person they would have at least found a way to contact someone about it.
#34
Hate to say it but - well maybe hes not with us anymore..... and his folks may not be aware of the deal he arranged with you.

It had occurred to me that beerman1 may have been in an accident or worse - which is why I waited for some time before getting worried. I have been in touch with my bank and with the bank that I transferred the funds to, they both suggest that unless I make it a police case they cannot share any information with me (and then they would only allow the police to access it). Have tried to track telephone numbers for both the names/addresses I have been given and have rung a number of them without making any progress.

From the pm's I had recieved re the deal it seemed that at least another person in beerman1's family was aware of the deal - if in fact he has 'bitten the bullet' I would have expected some communication from them or from one of the contacts I had made to confirm that fact.

Again I hope that he has in fact scammed me because I would not wish ill on him.
