I want to have a go at fishing and there are a few rivers around me so i thought why not! I have never fished before but i have a friend who does but I want to get a beginners set. Seen one in Argos for £19.95 and to be honest im not sure if its what i need, but will it be ok?

my OH is looking for some gear as his brother and dad go loads and are proper into fishing they told him to stay away from argos stuff cause its really crap for the money

ps..try ebay your friend can tell you what you need and good makes etc

looks like not even good enough for kids to use

Suggest that you ask your local angling club, somebody will take you out if you ask nicely then you can see if its for you or not before spending any big dosh.

You might wanna get a license too (from the environment agency website), about £40 for a year?

The licence for an adult is £27 unless you're fishing for salmon etc

I agree with ilp, dont touch the argos stuff, try your local freecycle site put a wanted ad on it.

& good luck with your fishing, i love it, for me work gets in the way of fishing !

Cheers guys, looked on freecycle and gumtree near me and there arent any unfortunately :(

Although i have seen a set in tescos for £20. Im not going to splash out around £50+ just to get started.

to be honest you'd be better off putting your money towards something half decent, car boots ? have you tried your local tackle shop they do kits, tell them what you want & your budget, i'll probably cost you more then £20 but you would get something half decent. Your mate not have something you could borrow, to see how you get on. where do you live ?
