i always feel guilty, dont know why as the staff and managment dont give a damn about me when im off, they just all presume that anyone who has sick days is taking the pee.

I think the vast majority of people take the living pisticle and that in turn affects people who are genuinely off sick. Work ethic around me is almost none existent and it fecks me right off, I have been to work with a dislocated kneecap on crutches and only had the 2 hours for my out patient appointment off yet tom, dick and harry are regularly off with flupping toothache, belly ache and ass ache, grrrrrrrr.

I worked my nuts off for 15 years doing 100+ hours a week, now i'm retired at 34 and don't give a crap.

Inb4 people claiming your scum and are a benefit fraud.

Though I guess this would be nice thing to be off that long if you have hobbies and are capable of doing them. I'm guessing it's medical and none of my buisness. :|

Before I went on maternity I hadn't been of work sick for over ten years straight. In fact the only time I have been off sick in my whole working life was two weeks off when flu wiped me out.
#12
If you are genuinely ill why would you feel guilty?!

Awesome.

Thanks mate, but I have missed out on Good times, doing people favours, at one point things were soo tight was unable to go on my 30th b'day to Greece as had large investment of money with a so called friend, He was late paying money back to me 9 months in fact, large amount shall we say, hence all my friends went including him!! I just wasn't in a situation where it would logical to go.
anyway he has since lost everything from doing this to too many people, That's Karma!!

If you're genuinely ill you wouldn't feel guilty! I had such a bad case of tendonitis (caused from working solely on a laptop at WORK!) my entire arm and hand swelled up and I couldn't move it... I was on anti-inflammatories and painkillers... Despite 3 doctors telling me not to do anything for at least 3 days, I drove one handed (albeit very slowly!) to work and typed one handed for a week whilst it got better!
SKIVERS!
#16
Only ever take time off if I am at deaths door, and most of the work I do is on a self employed basis anyway,so no guilt is felt

My oh's work put a new policy in place 3 years ago to stop the skivers, 3 episodes of sickness in 1 year you get a warning, 3 warnings you are out, its terrible really, the few people that abused the system have caused problems for the genuine majority, people are now going into work with all sorts of contagious illnesses!
I can understand why people get cheesed off with the ones that swing the lead, it makes the work harder for everyone else, but the policy stinks, I'm sure that they could target the repeat offenders without targeting everyone.

I know when I was nursing, we had a hca who seemed to be on permanent maternity leave or light duties, she'd come back to work for a month after maternity leave, then get pregnant again, go on light duties, go on maternity leave etc, she did that 3 times before she left, everyone thought that was taking the mick a bit!

I use to never have time off and relised i still got treated like crap so now if i dont feel like going in i dont and couldnt care less.

I had swine flu the other day, I had 2 half days off work in the 8yrs I've been at the job. If I have called in sick I've worked the next day to make up for it. I'm an idiot I know, but I do feel really guilty. I get 14 days sick a year fully paid and 6 months full pay for long term sickness.

I had time off over christmas with Flu, had never felt so bad in all my life. It then went from flu to a chest and sinus infection. I felt guilty as I was letting my collegues down. Dr offered me a sick note but on the same day I had a call from one of the ward sisters who demanded that I return to work. I refused but did return a few days later, struggled to do my job, coughed all over the patients (great for infection control!) and now we are inundated with members of staff who have been poorley - what a suprise.

Flu and colds spread if people go into work, companies should encorage people who have illnesses to stay away from the job as it has a worse impact if more staff are then off. I don't take time off usually and I was fuming about how I was treated on the one occasion I was off ill.

Last day i was off sick was Easter 2002 when my littlun gave me a gift of Chicken Pox so was contagious and off for 4 days. The time before that was 1994.

It might be that im just very healthy, though its more to do with not being a skiving ****

OP if you were genuinely sick there is nothing to be embarrassed about though I expect the reason you are is because you know colleagues who abuse sick pay.

well i personally tend to of had a good few times off over the years for genuine reasons i have had acid reflux and gastral problems with my stomach the pain was sometimes agonising i was uncontrollable now after 2 camera's down my throat and 6 different types of medication im starting to get my attendance back to a good % in 3 years ive had about 12 days off in total not linked to my stomache and 4 of that 12 are this week so i dont think im all that bad. i just wanted your thoughts and im glad i asked :)

Sounds like your ward sister was a bit of a twit! I have several friends male and female whom are nurses this can not be justified. Great for short term solution but when you have so many people working together in a warm environment, that **** will spread like wildfire.

Have our own business so if one of us is ill the other can hopefully cover it and lets face it if we're in bed ill we are only in the other room lol! But if a customer needs work doing asap then really it just gets done.
I volunteer with animals twice a week too and when I had this flu bug I didn't go in for a week, felt guilty that the pony was missing his walk lol :D

and this is the attitude that you'll find gets up the higher ups noses.
I couldn't have that feeling towards work when it enables me to put a roof over my families head, I'm grateful to be employed and mindful of the impact of my actions on my colleagues, if you are genuinely sick then so be it but if its because you have a stink attitude then give the job up for someone else who's not work shy. Too many people think well if so and so can be off for a nose bleed then i can have a couple of days off with face ache, have a bit of pride goddamit. Anyway rant over just this is one of the things that gets on my pips the most.

That's what we work for, for people who genuinely need help, I have no problem helping people with serious health issues.
