I've just been having a go at replacing my old Speedtouch 330 Modem with a new Belkin N Wireless Modem Router but I'm a bit stuck as my old modem connected via USB rather than a networking cable as supplied with the Belkin.

I've connected the Belkin via the networking cable into what appears to be the relevant port on my desktop pc but can't get the Set Up Assistant software to recogise that it's set up.

Do I need to uninstall the Speedtouch Modem?

model number ?

anyways you need to plug patch / network cable from back of PC network card to say port 1 on belkin

use DHCP in router and use AUTO assign IP addys on pc you should then be able to say type 192.168.1.1 or click on new device in network if it appears to be configured and then you will need to enter the setting your ISP gave you to connect to DSL.

There should be a wizard type thing when you log into belkin modem to set it up with your details like PPPoA VCI and see piccy

make sure the ethernet network ports are enabled in the network connections folder.

most modems can be configured via a web page located at 192.168.1.1 or similar.

Connect up to the ethernet port. As Dontasciime has said open a web browser and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and see if you are prompted for a username and password

If you get asked then its simple from there, But you need to be able to access the router so this is the crucial part.

The router is a Belkin F5D8633-4.

Right, I've gone into 'network connections' from control panel and selected LAN instead of Tiscali Broadband (listed under DialUp) and have managed to get further in the setup process. All seemed ok until the setup programme asked for my username and password, which I gave it but it seemed to think they were incorrect.

Thanks for the help so far.

I had a similar problem with my password, I phoned my ISP who reset it for me and gave the exact settings for the router. I then phoned Belkin who talked me through it whilst I was on the phone...............................10 minutes tops and I'm a technophobe :-D

I seem to recall Tiscali using non - standard settings, I may be wrong, I have never used them, nor am I likely to.

I've just setup a SafeCom wireless router for someone in the street .There on Tiscali too , as sugested I just had to link my laptop to the router using a network cable [ethernet/cat5/6] and feed there username and password in the fields .Thats all I had to do .No problems and it's working fine .I checked encapsulation settings etc from the tiscali website before I did the job .
