Rafa Benitez has admitted for the first time he might have to sell Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard.

couldnt agree more,i like liverpool but think the fat waiter has to go

If we dont get 4th place, we can't afford the repayments on the rbs loan, so that will force the yanks to take new investment,

They could have done the deal with the other american investors last month but the greedy sods are holding out for top dollar, they know if we do manage to get that 4th place then we are a much more attractive purchase for new investors

Depends on the new buyers (if they can find one). Gerrard and Torres are not going to be happy playing in a mediocre team that more than likely is not going to be in the ECL. If investment can be found and the team strengthened then maybe they may stay.

If Man City get int othe ECL though who knows what will happen in the summer, I think massive amounts of cash maybe thrown their way.

What I will find funny is if Liverpool win the Europa League (probable) and finish 4th (probably not) and Utd don't win the league (probable) , who will have had the most successful season?

It's not just Liverpool though I'd say 75% of football clubs are in exactly the same predicament.

United obviously, they will finish 3rd minimum in the league guaranteeing Champions League football, won the fizzy drink cup and got beaten by a decent team at the knockout stage of Champs League. Not even comparable with where Liverpool are even if they do win the Wooden Spoon Competition.

Whatever way round you cut it, all the other top clubs are hoping Rafa stays on.

2 cups won on penalties, a 2nd place in the league, few 3rd places and they're gonna have to pay up his contract if they want to get rid - not much of a return for the supposedly long term investments made by the club, and we're talking about vast sums of money going out of the club.

If Liverpool finish below 4th, Gerrard and Torres will most likely want away. Gerrard to Chelsea as they love a 30ish superstar, Barcelona will take Rooney off Man Utd, making Real Madrid go out and splash a load of cash on Torres as their statement of intent.

Rollocks:w00t:

Torres as ex captain and icon at altetico would never go to real, would be like carragher going to united:thumbsup:

Ok then, might be Barca instead - but you know how hard it is to keep your best players nowadays, and you know that 5/6th is a major possibility.

I was trying to think of a club that would have the funds and fit the profile. If not Chelsea, maybe Inter Milan.

Don't get me wrong, would hate to see those 2 players leave Liverpool for Spain. I suppose with your club still having such a rich history, they might be persuaded to stay with as you say, (maybe) promise of even more investment.

I'm probably just a bitter hammer, and I'm too used to our best players leaving for several decades :w00t:
