Been using AVG 8.5, thinking about Kaspersky.

What do you use and have you had any problems?
Cheers

you get free mcafee with HSBC bank

use a paid for one.
free ones only offer a very limited amount of cover and you'll end up with 3-4 other bits of software running too

just whatever you do do NOT go with norton or MacAfee!!!!!!

I had norton that I updated every DAY and scanned every few days and basically i still got a virus that FIRSTLY attacked norton at its core, then set about deleting my whole computer!! I didnt listen to my brother which I shouldve since he's a I.T. fixes computers person (oops my bad!).

MacAffee is also similarly rubbish. Also my boyfriend got a lappy a couple months ago, he updated the MacAfee he got with it, run it etc, and within a WEEK of having his computer got a huge virus that he had to reboot the whole thing (boy was he gutted as it'd taken him hours to re-do his itunes/iphone on it but he didnt listen to me).

I have Avast! and never had any problems been using it for a few years now and I do a LOT of downloading from the net - it always picks up viruses. This is what my brother uses, as does the I.T. folkies he works with.

Take no notice of these knopfs.
According to internet users there's no such thing as a good AV.
No matter what one you say you use ( and may have used for years with no problems) someone will say it's no good.

that's very true... BUT norton and macafee are notorious for being the WORST and very much avoidable.

as for the others, well it's pretty much to/fro really.

to be honest, saying norton and mcaffee are crap and AVG is the gods gift of AVs is such crap in itself.

AVG free is free for a reason. not cos the nice AVG people like you & wanna give you something. its cos they want to make money from the premium version by giving you a cut down taster of what you can pay for.

norton 360 v3 is actually pretty good. very quick install. very small updates. way less intrusive than before.

Some of the free AVs are so bad and just sit there detecting false positives.

I found Nod32/Eset Smart security as the best I've ever used.

Eset superior and low on memory usage. Have been using it on my LT for the past 2 year, no issue and no complains :-)

See?
I told you, didn't I?
"A is good and B is carp"

"No m8 A is carp and B is good"

Barclay's give their customers free copies of Kaspersky Internet Security which I use and find very good. I previously used Avira AntiVir which I also highly recommend. I have used Norton and McAfee but found their software resource hungry and still missed some viruses.

If you take Anti-Virus very seriously, take a look here for a thorough independent comparison of the main Anti-Virus products (including false positives):

http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report22.pdf

Avira nearly always comes out on top but I would use it in conjunction with SpyBot and Ad-aware.

Seconded, Norton IS a virus.

If you look at all of the characteristics of a trojan virus (such as getting deep in to your system and not letting you remove it without a lengthy fight), that is EXACTLY what Norton does.

ESET smart security is by far the best anti-virus ive came across.

AVG may be free, but it starts to hog system resources after a while. ESET runs absolutely silent in the background, no change in PC boot time either.

Get it.

anything except AVG will do

AVG free is rubbish now
