Try Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

You'll need to register but it's all free.
#3
kaspersky or NOD32 are both good if you want a free one then you could try AVG http://www.grisoft.com/
hope that helps.

Agreed. Nortons IS a virus!

As others have suggested, I use Avast, which is good (and free). AVG or Kaspersky are good alternatives also. Just dont get Nortons.:viking:

I use AVG free.Download from here:

http://free.grisoft.com/

And yep,Norton sucks IMO too.:)

Have to say been using this for over 2 yeasr now and no problems, in fact we have it on all of the family pc's, it was recommended to me by my technical director who's evaluated these types of things

avast! Antivirus is the best !!!!
#13
Norton is the devil incarnate.

Try the free editions of avg or avast. And you should also get some anti-spyware software too - lots of free ones out there, including an offering from avg.

Avoid Norton (hard to remove it from your system and it's detection rates ain't the best).

Another vote here for AVG.

Avast for me :)

hi there thought id revive this thread, on my mums pc she currently has norton and i scoming up for renewal, shoud i get rid and get avast or avg?

and how Is best to get rid of norton??

If your going to pay for it go for Kaspersky (about £25), if you just want a freebie avast or AVG are pretty much the same, but I would go for Avast.

to get rid of Norton just do a normal un-install and reboot, then run the Norton removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Just to get rid of some junk left behind.

NOD32 is a good one,
I've heard Kaspersky is too heavy :)
#20
i tried avast but didn't think much of it, spent 3 hours doing a scan on a new pc before i stopped it and the interface didn't seem all that. Got AVG now, seems ok

I use AVG.
Here's another free annti-virus similar to it http://www.clamwin.com/
#22
avoid norton!

i use Nod32 - cant beat it!
#23
Norton is such a pain in the a$$ .... i dont think i have ever come across one person who actually has much in the way of positives for it.

Ive used AVG for years now, it does the job and its free
#24
i am going to try nod32 30 day trial and see what t think, thanks guys.
#25
Another vote for NOD32
#26
I've tried McAFee, Norton, AVG, Zonealarm and now Avast which is free and doesn't appear to slow down the PC, it's not reported any virus's yet so I don't know how good the protection is.
#27
NOD32 all the way
#28
AVG = too many false positives
Try Comodo

Strange, I thought exactly the opposite:? Avast has the better interface and is faster at scanning!

Kaspersky AV. I recommend it to all my clients too!
