Best background music for wedding reception

I'm after some music to be playing in the background at my upcoming wedding reception, before the band starts up, where the guests will be arriving and mingling for a while before the dinner etc...

I'm thinking of all classical stuff (ie no real "singing"), but I know nowt about classical music.

So far I've found Pachelbel - Cannon in D major which I really like.

Any other suggestions for similar stuff?

we had a pianist during our reception which lovely and not too expensive, he played a real good variety of music including some modern but on the piano it sounded lovely. Everything from Oasis to the Beatles. Think we payed £140 for 2 hours

Chamber Music by Bach

Chamber music is considered to be the music of friends. It is very relaxing and calming. It is especially helpful if your aunt Elsie doesn't like the hat of the bride's mother.

Is that a whole collection of songs? I can't seem to find much.

You should be able to get a cheap classical cd by Sabastian Bach, most of it will be strings so will probably be ok for a wedding reception. I'll nip over to Amazon to see if there are any downloads, but I reckon it will be cheaper to buy the cd.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maestros-musica-clasica-Johann-Sabastian/dp/B001GK4HS4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1238497995&sr=8-1

You can listen to the tunes here too.

Yes. You don't want the classical stuff with all the clashing cymbals at a wedding - the guests will think they are at the Last Night at the Proms. J. S. Bach will be fine.

There are plenty of excellent pianists that add that touch of class to ta wedding reception. There's nothing better IMO than seeing someone play live in front of your eyes. As long as you have the score of the songs you require I'm sure you will be able to have whatever choice of music you'd like.

They are not that expensive either. Good Luck and have a great day..

Do they supply their own piano?
Sounds like a stupid question but i'm being serious

Hi Babbabooey , how about something more modern so that people who are not fans of classical music can relate? maybe Enigma or Sigur Ros. I like Predikuesi's ideas of Bach. I would also choose Mozart: Andante Piano Concerto No 21, Clarinet Concerto in A major, The Magic Flute and some Gabriel Fauré - Pavane, op 50.

Most Hotel/Receptions have their own If I'm not mistaken. see them all the time at venues that I gig. In saying that I'd say that a quick call would answer the question. Sorry couldn't be bore specific.

"Get down on it" would seem a good choice! :w00t:
