if you look all banks will more than likely do an account for under 16s which inlude a solo or visa electron debit card and don't let you go overdrawn..

i personally prefer nat west

daughter's is natwest as she looked herself for an account which offered incentives ;)
she has a cash card and cant go overdrawn-she can use it in shops too.

Barclays Visa Card will allow you to do all this and more, eg online shopping. And it's a normal visa card, not an electron.

Whats the halifax one called, im also looking into this:

I'm 16, I decided to apply for HSBC MyMoney, good interest rate, provides a Solo card and can't go overdrawn.

I would say Natwest all the way!
I have had my account since year 7 (11?) and am now 18 and find every aspect of their service excellent.

I have also got accounts with Nationwide (which was recently changed) and Barclays, and none come close.
Hope this helps

I heard one of the money experts say if they putting regular money in the best interest rate is usually the ones that dont offer freebies for under 18s and also said fill out a tax form so they dont tax the account.
#12
So what accounts can i get that run on Visa., thanks.

Lloyds TSB do a Visa debit.

Edit: I think you may have to be 16 though....

you're not allowed a full debit card until you're 16 whatever bank.it will be Visa Electron or one of the others depending on your bank. I think it's called Solo or Maestro.

Yes.

Well you don't "need" to be 18 to have a Paypal account.

Maybe you 'should' be 18, but you don't need to be.

HSBC is solo, i would rather not have that.
#25
i thought solo was better than visa electron
anyway, hsbc never got back to me so i've just gone with natwest

halifax offer a visa electron if thats what you prefer

abbey 11-15 account is pretty good reverting to a 16-18 when he/she turns 16 and then to a full bank account option once he/she turns 18
