Please can someone help- I'm bamboozled already by trying to choose a camcorder. Would prefer something that I can edit on my PC and the best quality possible. Something compact and preferable SDcard or HDD

Many thanks

If your pc is older you probably don't want an "hd" one as you wont be able to watch/edit the footage very well.
I use a Samsung MX20. Probably around the £150 at the moment. It uses SD cards, so not a HDD, but at the moment I've got a 16gb card in, so it's more than enough.

Starts up within a handful of seconds, good battery life, dead easy to use, nice and light and compact. Didn't cost a fortune, so if you drop it and damage it, it won't cause too many tears.

Whip the SD card out when you're done recording and use a card reader rather than plugging USB directly into the camcorder - nice and quick uploading clips onto your PC. I think the bundled software is called something like Mediashow - straightforward to use.

I did have a JVC HDD camcorder a couple of years ago - better quality and more expensive, but couldn't get to grips with the software and it seemed to take a fair amount of time uploading the clips to the PC.

Summary - good value for money, easy to use, shoots good quality images. (doesn't take still pics though)
ok I've also been looking at the JVC MS120 or MG330. The former has 2 SD slots and will switch between them, the latter has 30GB plus micro HC SD
The Panasonic camcorders usually produce good results. Have a look around and see if you can find a Panasonic with 3CCD technology. The 3 separate CCDs make a lot of difference to the colour.
think im down to the JVC Everio GZ-MG33 or MS120 (still deciding on HDD vs SD card and will come down to price) or Panasonic S26/H80 (again HDD or SD depending on price)
