Haven't driven either of them, But would say Honda Civic or Seat Leon, Both look good and get good reviews!

Go for a Rover!

Im seriously biast, since there all ive owned (apart from a saxo which i had for 2 weeks!)

Try to avoid a foreign car, the parts can get expensive.

Rover went bust, but the parts are still readily available, and you cant beat them for value

And i also take it your staying under 1.5 due to tax purposes, ive got a 1.6 typical!

I'm getting a Seat Leon Sport soon so i'll plump for that choice.

The MG has an excellent engine but expect the head gasket to go at around 50-60k. If you plan to do your own maintenance the MG would be a good one to go for as parts are relatively cheap and you can get a Haynes manual for it.....

I have an 02 Vauxhall Corsa. Had it for 4 years now. Only major problem I had was the gear linkage needed replacing as it had the more plasticky gear linkage on, and it had worn away (Common fault apprently!) so was replaced with a more metal one. Apart from that, still going strong! :w00t: Good mpg too!

TBH - having a Rover, and owning a rover in the past (my fella and his dad also have Rovers)
HGF is an issue, but every car has there issues, as long as you keep on top of it and get it sorted when it needs doing itll give you no trouble :)

My car had its HG changed at 50k, my metro was changed at 45k - needs doing every 50k or so :)

Every car has its faults though, dont let it put you off.

Vauxhalls are notorious for numerous faults, but im not going to get in a slanging match, all im saying is, i think my next car is going to be an MG :)

hmmmmm you just cant get a trustworthy dealership thats down to earth.
#26
Honda Civic if you want reliabilty and economy..particularly the diesel.
#27
Its got to be Honda Civic type-R with VTEC CONTROLLER like mine very fast just make sure that you get it tracked up people like to nic them .
#28
Civic, easy out of your choices imo
#29
I know a couple of people that have Rover MG Zr's and have had nothing but problems with them... but maybe they were just unlucky

Renault Clio diesels are great wee cars with the added bonus of super cheap tax £35 for the whole year  and great mpg return. Also depending on the model whether DCi 65, DCi 80 or DCi 100 they are pretty nippy too

Blimey!, That'll save a fair bit! :)
#31
Yeah it does save a fair wedge of cash each year, its due to them producing low emissions.

Although thats only if you go for the DCi 65 or DCi 80 as i beleive the 100 goes into the next bracket up as its emissions are over 120

Wife's 53 plate ZR 1.4 is for sale.
Good car, never had a problem with it.
Re the head gasket, it is very rare for them to go, it is like any other car, something can break at any time. The K series engine is a good engine and has been around for quite a while.
This is our 5th 'Rover' and never had one problem apart from the usual Battery, Exhaust, Tyres etc. I would deffinitley buy another without a second thought.

At the end of the day, everyone has different opinions, otherwise we would all buy the same cars. Just go with what you want, as I said you could buy a car that is a lemon or never has a problem, it can happen to any car at any time, not just certain makes and models.

how much you after? cough baring in mind this is HUKD and we expect bargains:w00t: :giggle: :giggle:

We have a Rover with 1.4 K series engine, Its got 129k miles (bought it at 70k) and hasn't has any belts, Head gasket or any other probs (Just normal maintenance and service at 7-8K).

Only real problem is a slightly blown exhaust but its been trouble free motoring so far.

Never drive a car aggressively or at least wait for the engine to warm up and the oil lubricate everything (Just laugh at those who rev the arse out of their cars from start up! and thrash their cars off the lights!)
