Hi folks

after managing to get my Dad's ne Compaq CQ61 downgraded to Win XP Pro I want to preserve all the hard work finding teh drivers etc to get everything functional.

The new laptop has a utility to create backup DVDs that give a backup restore facility.

is there any free / shareware / cheap software solutions that i can use to create a backup of the basic Windows XP install.

i jave googled this but cannot find any definative solutions so real recommendations from real users here would really be appreciated.

Many thanks

Doesn't hiren's boot cd contain acronis and such for making exact replicas of your hard drive?
I swear I used to use it after a fresh install on my laptop because getting drivers was horrendous.

Rstudio can get some right saucy stuff off second hand hard drives.

Yep, do as Etzyme says.

You can download the CD image from here: http://www.hirensbootcd.net/download.html

Boot from the CD, run Acronis True Image and make an image of your drive/partition with the fresh XP install. You'll need to run Acronis True Image again when you want to restore the image.
