tbh not many isp's are gonna let you download illegally, if they catch you, they bump you off (like 02 did).

You must be download extreme amounts for 02 to kick you off, BT had a 100GB download limit and then throttle your speed, same as virgin.

Why not buy the dvd's and games, as NO isp is going to allow you to use their network for excessive illegal content...

I use bt....option 3,they send me an email monthly saying that they are throttling between 5-12pm in the evening as i download over 400gb a month,i never really notice tbh....although there is no download limit, never had a problem in 4 years

BT will give you 300GB and then throttle speed at peak hours.

We are on option 3 and got told there is a 100GB limit and we were going to be throttled if we touched that amount. Closest we have got to is 85GB.

How much are you downloading a month lol ? I am with Sky, and they seem to be quite tolerant although people have been getting letters out, as far as I understand, they give you like 3 warning letters before taking any action and what not.

If you have been upgraded to ADSL2+ (up to 20MBPS) or Infinity (up to 40MBPS) then its been changed from 100GB to 300GB

If you are still on ADSL (up to 8MBPS) then its still 100GB fair use.

Yeah we are on 8MB (we get 7.8MB). They aren't upgrading us too ADSL2 or infinity for at least 12 months :(

Ah that sucks, being that close to the exchange will mean you should get over 15MBPS when they do upgrade you and then you'll have 300GB to use.

You know you can check download usage on bt.com now right?

Yup got the email the other week. We don't normally go near it (only get to 40/50GB) but one month we went overkill as i got a new lappy and pc and dad got a new pc so was downloading windows updates and software for the comps.

We are about half a mile from the exchange. Can't wait for the upgrade to infinity but don't think we are gonna get it for a long time as we can't even get virgin.

Im not talking about the email saying you 80% of your limit, you can go online and at midnight every night it will update how much you've used in the month so far. Its handy to know

Doesn't matter if you can get Virgin fibre optic or not.

Yeah I knew what you meant Starr ;) I got an email telling me about the online bandwidth checker. I really shouldn't be so vague with my replies X)

Well according to the BT engineer they are rolling out infinity where there is already cable available nearby (I guess to try and get some of Virgins customers). That's just the opinion of one bloke though.

Same here, on BT and throttled but not threatened.

I don't understand 'high speed internet' with usage limits as even watching HD content on something like Iplayer will tear through it pretty fast. What's the limit on the Bt infinity (or equivalent)?
#13
I'm on virgin's optical service, if you can get that I would definitely reccomend it. Virgin are still rolling out their fair useage policy, some people will get truely unlimited internet whereas others will have the fair usage applied. I do think it's fair though, during the day time, if you download too much, you will have your download speed capped to 1/4, however this is still enough to watch HD videos online. At night though, everyone is unlimited, I'm pretty sure I've downloaded well over 60GB in the past month, and that's without counting whatever my 2 housemates have downloaded.

Oh i see faevilangel :)

Ungreat its still 300GB on infinity, totally agree though about HD usage though.
#15
so basically BT option 3 is best way to go ?

Check if you can get ADSL or ADSL2+ on your line as thats the difference between 100GB and 300GB usage.

im on bt option 3. i asked before joining, was told there is no download limit, but you will be throttled at peak times if you download a lot. And even then its throttled to 2mb. For £15 a month im satisfied.

Is it O2 access? also what other LLU providers are available at your exchange?

seedbox and they'll never know!
