Best multiplayer games

I'm looking at getting my friend an xbox 360 game for Christmas. I've got about £10-15 to spend and all he's said is 'anything multiplayer'. I assume he means one he can play with mates as well as online.

Anyone got any ideas? Cheers.

I don't have a 360 anymore, but my son enjoyed Halo.
I wouldn't know which one is best to get, as he only had Halo 3, and never asked for any of the later ones.

Gears of War 2 might be another one to look at.

Call of Duty games have a huge online presence also.

Crackdown 2, less than £9 delivered - clicky it is a marmite game though, you either love it or you hate it
