Looking for a birthday pressie for my Dad. He has a laptop and likes war games but im finding it a bit difficult to find games that will run on it as its maximum graphic card is 251mb. Alot of the games seem to be 256mb. Any ideas and recommendations will be gladly accepted and rep given. Thanks.

I bought Grand Theft Auto 4 last week, and secretly tried it on his laptop but when loading the game it said not compatable? That game is a 256mb.

Not really.

It will be 256 but that 5mb has been reserved for something else.

Not many new games will run on a laptop unless it has a dedicated graphics card.

Do you know what graphics card it has?

it must have a dedicated graphics card as if it was shared memory then it would show up as 256mb (going on your definition above).

what do you mean by war games?

shooters or strategy etc?

age of empires 2 or 3 are classics and should run ok

gta4 is very demanding hence not working

how old is the laptop?

You need to find what the graphics card actually is, the memory is irrelevent really as it's the graphics card itself which matters. What is the make and model of the PC?

Company of Heroes.

If he likes war games and likes strategy then this is probably one of the best you can get.

It's a onboard graphics card which means it's not very powerful, it's not a particularly powerful processor either so you're best looking at older games. What games has your Dad previously enjoyed playing to help us get a better idea of what to recommend.

He is a new user so he has only tried a couple of games. He is playing a fighter pilot game at the moment - sorry but not sure of the name of it, but mentioned about getting a war game. Something like Call of Duty would be good but I know that wont run on it. Or maybe a car chase game like GTA? Thankyou for helping me! :)
