All peeps like myself, (currently residing in 26 degree blazing sunshine en francais :p ) who frequently travel abroad should absolutely open a Nationwide Flex account.

NO withdrawal charges, NO percentage of cash spent, interest paid on current acc. Commercial exchange rate...FAR FAR better than any / most travel agencies (currently getting1.25 € to the £).

Lloydstsb used to cane me in charges for daring to spend my own money where I wanted to !!!!!!, check & compare:
http://nationwide.co.uk/current_account/default.htm

I now have just 7 bank accounts :)

Thanks for the post - it reminded me to open a Nationwide account.

My mother got a very good rate of exchange from Thomas Cook last month (no need to book a holiday through them!) ...

*** For information, the only bank account I have found that will allow transfer of funds by email from UK to French a/c (or other foreign bank accounts?) is SMILE. This is very handy when the foreign a/c is getting low and you need to transfer money - all my other accounts need you to apply to transfer in person - not easy when you are not in the UK at the time! ***

Cash Generator has the best rates on the high street at the moment.

But if you go into the euro zone often then I recommend https://www.caxtonfxcard.com/
