Pick up in most major airports.

Travelex are pretty good and convenient.
Also try your local cash generator shop. I've found them cheaper than the banks and PO.

I find eurochange the best.

depends where you are going. Sunny tourist resorts when you get there have always offered better exchange rates (commission free) than any exchange outlet I have come across including some mentioned above. European capitals are a different story.

Best and cheapest bet is a Nationwide debit card - get your UK cash out overseas without any charges. Best rates too.

Their credit card is the next best option, but there is a small withdrawal fee.

Very true as you can proper inter-bank exchange rates with zero commission. I got €400 out last time in Spain and I got 1.28 whereas best anywhere else was 1.25

make sure you withdraw it as Euros as if you say Sterling then the bank you withdraw from exchanges them for you at a very bad rate.

You could use your credit card in a hole in the wall in the country you are going to, make sure your CC account is in credit then you will avoid the interest charges on cashing money

Beware the withdrawal fee, though - frequently 3%. Also the currency conversion fee - frequently also around 3%.
