Not sure if its classed as Canaries but Madeira esp if you are going to be there New Years eve.

I've only been once and can't offer any advice on where to go, but can advise you to not to go to.. puerto rico. There's not a lot to do and the hassle you get off people trying to bogart you in to a restraunt or sell you a "sony" cam corder for 10euros is really annoying.

The only good thing I found was the tax free cigarettes & Tobacco:-D

Why Madeira on New years eve. Weather looks similar to canaries so is an option. Do you know of any good family resorts.

We liked Puerto Rico - a real sun trap of a resort. Beach can get crowded though.

But there's nothing to do?.

To be fair a few of my mates did enjoy puerto rico and if you are happy just eating in restaurants drinking in bars and sitting on the beach it's for you. I like a bit of history, some sites to see etc, where as puerto rico is totally commercial designed purely to part holiday goers from their hard earned cash.

Basically they have stuck a fake beach in a cove plonked some hotels on the side of some rocky hills in a valley and banged a shopping centre full of bars, restaurants and bits of tat shops in the middle.

really, any holiday, they are tryin to get you into bars and restaurants, no matter where you go! but amadores beach which is a good half an hour stroll is very children friendly! And if youfancy it sioux city is very good for adults and children, and the boat trip to a market, which i cant remember what its called is nice and has a nice beach lovely for kids, and we seen real dolphins in the sea....bonus!! Puerto rico had a nice kids play park to, it also had a water park quite close to the hotel which we stayed in, which as you can see from my review on tripadvisor I cant big up enough!

We also went to tenerife 2 years ago, stayed in los christianos which is away from the hustle and bustle of plays americas, and that was really nice too, "the Reveron". but anything that you need to do, trips etc. are a long bus ride, which is not good in the heat!
Loro parque is a canny bus ride away.
