Best sat-nav system to get as a present?

I'm guessing lots of people here have bought some of the cheaper sat-nav systems that are available - whats the best one to get as a present (in the siginifcantly under £100 range)?

Ebuyer have the Navigo 3.5" Sat Nav V2 for under £50 which seems about the cheapest out there - is it any good? Is it worth paying more to get a TomTom 1 or a Garmin system?

All advice appreciated! Thanks

Thanks. I'm a skinflint though (haven't made my fortune on the stock-market :whistling:) and can't decide if the TomToms worth the extra (£30) over the el cheapo-ebuyer effort...

I don't see why not ......it's not sealed and does not mod the device in any way other than copying files onto an SD card.

They can even swap between original Turbodog and Tomtom 7 if they wanted.

Tell me more... Have you got a Navigo yourself? How does it compare 'out of the box' to a TomTom, how easy is it to (flash?) to using TomTom v7?

I own both Navigo V1 & V2 models and have 'upgraded' several recently !

Really easy to do as long as your familiar with copy & pasting files.

The only thing your can't ask for 'in these forums' is where to obtain an unofficial version of Tomtom 7 but it's not difficult to find.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be able to find it, I'm pretty resourceful like that!

Couple of other questions if you don't mind:
Is the display big and clear enough?
Does it come with car charging cable? (the description suggestions it comes with a car cable but not a mains adapter?)
What size SD card should I get (I doubt the video playback functionality will be used! - will a 1gb be adequate for software+mapping?)

Thanks once again for the advice.

Edit: I see lots of my questions are answered in the ebuyer comments bit anyway! Think I'll go with the cheap option :giggle:

Yep ...the display is SUPERB !!

As well as in-car it charges from standard USB too ........so just buy a mains/ USB charger if u don't have a PC or laptop handy.

It supports SDHC ....so if it were me i'd buy a 4gb SDHC card.

You can also get an 'ultimate Tomtom map' which is Western & Central Europe. It's 1.7gb and the detail is awsome. !

Also just depends how much Movies & MP3's you want to put on it.

You can use 'PocketDivxEncoder' to compress 700mb Divx files down to about 200mb keeping the DVD quality which means you can get loads of movies on a 4gb card. !

PM sent.

Hi all
Is the Navigo V2 easy to set up? What do I need? Thanks.

Got it, was pretty easy to install TomTom 7 on, a few steps to activate it but nothing too complicated. Works well, seems good for the cash.
