I think u would be just fine with the 42".

I have a 37" and it took me a few days for my eyes to adjust - sounds strange but true!!

some great bargains to be found just now as well

Yeah I wanted to ask as I have read that having too big for the room will hurt your eyes etc.

mines is on a glass stand - I know it seems to be the done thing putting them on the wall but I never like that! but it does free up some space for you I suppose

As long as it's sound, and you use the correct fixings, it will be fine.

Any bigger than a 32" would be rediculous for the distance you are seated.

Don't agree with that really.

I'm about 9' from my 42" plasma and it's perfect.

Get a big piece of cardboard (or tape some newspaper sheets together) and cut it to the size of a 42" screen. Blue tack it to the wall and sit on your sofa or chair and see if you think its too big....

Yeah well I currently have a 22" PC monitor that I watch films on but it's going to be for a PS3 and have had trouble playing Fifa from my sofa as the men seem very small!

Yeah - best way to see how its going to look. If you wanted to be really thorough you could paint the cardboard black but thats probably taking things too far

Other thing to consider is the height your TV is going to be - ideally (ergonomically) the middle of the tv should be level with your eyes (when you are sitting) but most people think this is too low so the next best thing is to have the bottom of the screen level with your eyes......
I have a 32" and sit 2/3 metres away and its probably about right so I'd recommend a 37" or 42"......

You can get a chart that tells you the ideal viewing distance. Also sitting too close to a TV, will make the picture slightly blurry.

sorry but that is utter rubbish

from 13 feet, the optimal tv size is about 100" so go for at least a 50" tv

32" max optimal viewing distance is about 5 foot

watching a 22" tv from 3 metres away reminds me of my student days with a tiny portable in the corner of the room! My PC monitor is 22" and I'm 2 foot from the screen!
