Cranberry juice?

You will need antibiotics for a water infection, get to the docs. They will only need a urine / blood sample.

Plenty of cranberry juice, but best to get checked out tho, they can tell with apee sample if you have an infection.!!

Snap I still have one atm.

Drink barley water. Nothing else, stay away from sugars.

At the moment i'm drinking about 4-5 litres a day.

You deffo need to go the doctors though, as if you have it won't shift easily.

I take paracetemol for the pain every so often, tend to use it when its bad.

This infection hasn't come with much pain. So I'm lucky but has had blood. So I have had tests. It could be nothing or it could be serious. But you need to seek medical help.

i think the cranberry juice idea is actually a myth, but will have to check that. Best go to your doctor, he wont pull you about, just ask for a urine sample which he can dip and check it there and then. The symptoms you should be seeing are increased frequency or urination, urgency, smelly urine and pain. The doctor will give you trimethoprim antibiotic for 3-5 days if you have one. HTH!

Cranberry juice or cloudy lemonade... if it doesn't go away in get a urine test done at your GP and if you have a UTI you will get some antibiotics

Yeh I have had that antibotic, it was too weak for my case now on Ciprofloxacin 500mg.

Cranberry juice is good to drink a small glass a day to keep infections at bay. If I have an infection, had a fair few I drink it now and then to keep any new baddies away. :w00t:

i see. trimethoprim is the 'first line' treatment for infections of this nature, if it doesnt resolve, then we move onto treatment using different antibiotics. 20% of waterwork infections are resistant to trimethoprim so it may be that you need stronger or different types of antibiotic

Yeh these are nearly finished and don't feel like they are completely clear.

So may have to take more.

Any ideas which is the next one up. What prof are you?

Strobez, the doctor doesn't need to "pull you about" to ascertain whether you have a water infection... He jst needs a urine sample to test. It's a one second thing, take a small sample of urine in to your GP and they can tell you instantly if its a urinary tract infection or something else. If it's a UTI you'll get antibiotics straight away.

Cranberry juice wont cure a UTI but it certainly helps ease the pain involved as drinking loads helps flush out the bacteria. As Adam said stay away from sugar as sugars encourage the bacteria to multiply so sugar FREE cranberry juice please will help more. Cranberry juice normally has heappppppps of sugar in it otherwise.

I'm assuming you're worried about the doc examining you, as if its not a UTI ( unusual in most men ) you'll be concerned about STIs. All I can say there is bite the bullet... you need to see a doc to get rid of any of this stuff.

Good luck........xx

if you dont feel they are completly gone go back to gp and he/she can retest your urine. also he can or he should have sent a sample for it to be grown in the lab to see exactly what organism/s is growing in your urine, so a tailor made antibiotic can be given.

My profession? i have three really lol, bit complicated to go into but i work a lot with patients with urine infections, and also have lab experience of this sort of thing from my days at university!

Cranberry juice
Basically plenty of fluids, and be a big boy/girl and get yourself down the Drs. Don't worry about being pulled about, as said above they can test just a urine sample.
Always best to get it checked, how would you feel if you spent the next week in pain drinking gallons of cranberry juice, only to then go to the Dr's and find out it wasn't a water infection but something else?

Sorry to hear about the UTI As others have said you will need to produce a urine sample and this can be tested straight away with the dip sticks at the Docs drink plenty of water and take paracetamol to ease the symptons.I have had serious UTI problems for ten years or more and have the test sticks but to be honest If I start to feel like I have an infection i take the antibiotics and drop a sample in to the docs for it to be cultured to make sure i have the correct medication.

Good luck and if it does get bad call NHS Direct and they can get you an appointment with an out of hours Doc who will give you the medication.:)

FGS get yourself down the quacks, they have seen it all before.

Potassium citrate from the chem is alays good for water infections, esp cistitus, which men can get, although its not as common as in women, I take it if I feel like im getting abit of a water inf to stop it in its tracks, its about £2 fo a bottle and you dilute it in water. But i would suggest a trip to the docs! Theyr not gonna hurt u!

Why is is called a water infection and not urine infection? That's like referring to a vagina as a lady garden.
#34
just a update after seeing a diff doctor,he told me its prob stress related, not sure how true that could be and not sure how that could affect my water works :(
