I know what you mean.. just want to future proof it as much as possible (looking for something that would last me about 5 years).. so want things like sata-2, usb 3..

the intel i5/i7 equivalents cost about £100 more..

You can get a MSI P55-GD85 For £160 , which has sata-2 usb3 etc.

Get this, an d0 i5 with a good cooler, and you can OC it to 3-4Ghz quite easally. Would probably give you better gaming performance..

Hmm.. I dunno.. I would have liked to have stuck with Asus or Gigabyte.. but they eat quite a bit into my budget.

Msi. very interesting. I really like the look of this board..

I'd get a much cheaper mobo, also poor HDD choice, get a Samsung F3.

Thanks for the HDD recommendation..

Can you recommend any alternative motherboards with similar features?

I too have traditionally stuck with Asus as my preferred Mobo. I bought a MSI P55-GD65 as a special promotion when they were released. No 6/GB Sata or USB3, but very happy with it, and great for overclocking. You can allways add a USB3 or SATA2 controler later, but not really important currently..
