Hey Guys,

I'm really sorry if i have posted this topic on the wrong thread - just wanted to get this message out to all you guys ASAP!!!

I am a new member who has recently joined on this site and with paypal, i posted an ad a few weeks ago, looking to sell my Nokia 8800 mobile phone.

I had recieved a reply from a guy in the name of "SEYI HESO" he was looking for more information and pics etc, so i forward this on to his email address which is "[email protected]"

Of course thinking this was a genuine transaction, this random person asked if i would accept paypal. I said yes, as i recently joined but never have recieved or made any transactions through them, so this would have been my very first transaction.

Around 12.30pm yesterday, i had received an email from "Paypal Payment Confirmation"....subject "Payment Confirmation" of course to me this seemed genuine as it had paypal logo etc and the wording sounded all genuine aswell.

Then later on in the afternoon, i recieved an email from the bogus person to say the funds have been released from his account to my account and that in order for me to claim the funds, i needed a tracking number of the dispatched item, then i will have access to the money.

I questioned this person as to why his paypal account was in a different name, i was told the phone was a gift for someone and his paypal wasn't working and he would use his friends instead....of course, my instincts were telling me something was wrong, so i decided not to question this person and to be safe, i decided to contact Paypal Customer Services direct and they were ever so helpful and asked me to forward the email to the "[email protected]"......i got a reply back stating this was a phishing email and YES it was a SCAM.

Well, this morning i checked my email account and received another email from this "SEYI" person asking whether i shipped out the phone, as the payment has left his friends account and few mins later received another email from paypal stating funds released. (nothing in my paypal account though)

So, i said to this "SEYI" person that i no longer want to go ahead with this transaction and then i got an email few moments later with alot of abuse.

But hey all i can say is that even though it was my first time using paypal and the initial paypal email looked genuine, My first paypal attempt was a bad one but hey i followed my instinct and glad to say that the phone is still in my possession.

People like these give the genuine paypal account holders a bad name

Any new/current paypal users would like me to send them a copy of the initial email i got, so you know what to look out for please PM me and i can send it.

Sorry guys to bore you with this long email, but i rather you be safe than sorry.

has anyone else had a similar experiece they would like to share??

Kind Regards

Nazzy

I read it as the funds never made it to Nazzy, Well done, you have to keep vigilant.

I always make sure the funds are transferred into my bak account before proceeding with the transaction. Many a time there has be a 'postal delay' whilst I cover my a**e

scammers are everywhere, you just have to be careful

If you get emails from paypal telling you you have funds, never click links, login to www.paypal.com and check from there. If ou are suspicious about the transaction ring paypal.

I agree, he should have started his own FS thread. If you deal by PM only, it's your own fault as theres no proof of anything going on AND the scammer could be hitting more than one person without anybody being any the wiser.
