I'm sure he's talking about tracking, not a tracker???

I paid £20 a few months back at local garage,I did buy a couple of tyres at the same time however

What you want is a proper 4 wheel alignment.
It costs around £50, takes about 1/2 hour depending.

Wow, you paid £50??? I've ALWAYS paid around £25 for the proper 4 wheel alignment (using the rods & laser aligners)... May need to change your garage lol.

look for yourself?

I wouldn't trust a nearly new £66K BMW to a Kwikfit fitter.

What on earth is 4 wheel alignment?
Unless you have 4 wheel steering, then aren't the rear wheels static?

No. You can get bad handling and uneven wear on the tyres if the rear wheels aren't sitting right.

Don't trust Kwikfit with a push bike.

So you're saying you can adjust the alignment of the rear wheels?Sorry but I don't believe that, not on everyday cars.

lol, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_alignment
Of course you can adjust all 4 wheels, you adjust it to get it back to the manufacturers initial spec!

My current car, which is just over a year old now, has no means of adjusting the rear wheels.None of my previous 10 cars had this ability also.Sounds like a con to me but I am prepared for someone to show me how it can be done.

That was already picked up in post #5, less than 10 minutes into the thread.I think it is clear that the OP, 'cos he can't spell, originally put tracker when he meant tracking.I think that is why it is now in upper case.

Im quite aware it was pointed out earlier on thanks!

There are two main types of 4-wheel alignments. In each case, the technician will place an instrument on all four wheels. In the first type the rear toe and tracking is checked, but all adjustments are made at the front wheels. This is done on vehicles that do not have adjustments on the rear. The second type is a full 4-wheel alignment where the adjustments are first made to true up the rear alignment, then the front is adjusted. A full 4-wheel alignment will cost more than the other type because there is more work involved.

Thrust angle is the direction that the rear wheels are pointing in relation to the center line of the vehicle. If the thrust angle is not zero, then the vehicle will "dog track" and the steering wheel will not be centered. The best solution is to first adjust the rear toe to the center line and then adjust the front toe. This is normally done during a 4-wheel alignment as long as the rear toe is adjustable. If the rear is not adjustable, then the front toe must be set to compensate for the thrust angle, allowing the steering to be centered.

From a website, not me!

So quite clearly it doesnt matter if the rears arent adjustable, they can still be checked and adjustments made to the front to compensate.
