Looks like either water or oil temperature too hot. ( Can't see it clearly. )

Low on water causing water to get hot.
Problem with engine causing oil to get hot.

just put more water in?

if your water level is fine & the temp guage isnt rising, then its more then likely a coolant temperture sensor fault, only way to be 100% certain is to plug the vehicle into a diagnostic machine.

That's Oil Temp.. --

There could be 50 reasons why your engine is overheating. One of them might cost £20 to fix another might cost £2,000 to fix.

Instead of asking a forum frequented by fat racists, why don't you go to a garage?
#18
you really need to post what vehicle it is & read some of the more sensible posts !

Yes, Looking at it again, coolant temp, -- but depending which model it could be either as this symbol on some cars is used for both... and on some cars oil temp is not reported..

because often its jus something minor which other people have experienced, hence me asking on a big forum like this, 9/10 my question will be answered like it has been.

I mean if i wanted to know how to cook a apple pie, should i just go to pay to go to a cooking class? or I just search on the Internet on how to bake one?

mind=blown

or why dont you go to a BMW forum where you will get a better selection of replies compared to above ?

The fact is the OP has not even listed details of the problems encountered, or when the issue occurs... ie after 5 miles? 10 minutes? nor even the model of car...........
#24
water temp, could be low on coolant, maybe a leak in a pipe, faulty thermostat, radiator may have a leak. check level, top up with antifreeze not water, you can buy ready mixed stuff now. monitor the level for a few days. if it drops see a garage. not all leaks leave a tell tale spot under car as they might allow water to escape as steam on a top hose or similar.

Just saying that there are better places on the internet to ask questions about an engine warning light than a deals website. Plus, it's just a warning light and doesn't tell you anything about the problem itself.

Why isn't your dad dealing with this anyway? It's his car. Why on Earth is he letting his 13 year old son ask questions on the internet about it?

Dan, is there enough material in this thread for another rap? Or should we milk it a bit more?

Listen up bredda I be in a fix
My whip be broken, I need your help quicks

She was doing 150 when the engine went pop
Now I’ve got to take it to the car fixing shop

But I won’t take in to the garage yet
I’ll ask some fat nerds on the internet

“Listen up fatties, my car is bust”
“It’s you over the garage whose advice I trust”

But it was no good, they were of no use at all
They only knew about racism and football

So off to the garage BG did go
Couldn’t go fast, had to drive slow

The mechanic took one look and told him to take a hike
“We’re a car garage, we can’t fix your Miley Cyrus Bike”

I'll look forward to your thread asking why the water keeps running out, you did put it in the reservoir and not the oil filler or the washer bottle didn't you?

Not really. If your dad knows a good local garage they probably would have had a look at it for free and told him what the issue is. I know our local place does this and I am sure many others would too.

But I am sure "putting some water in it" has definately, 100% solved the problem and all will be fine.

Your dad will batter you if you are wrong. How will he be able to drive to visit your mum in prison if the car breaks down?

needed more water on a cold day. if overheating now need to find out why before develops into more difficult and expensive problem. In meantime suggest you always carry extra water with you.
Road repairmen told me bad idea to top up when engine is hot so always let it cool down before adding cold water.
Could be a really simple thing to fix. I went through new radiator and new hoses. AA man found that I was losing water through steam due to badly fitting cap on water reservoir. But overheating can cause engine problems hence 'big end'.

I doubt you mean "problem fixed", just "light has gone out". You can achieve the same by removing the bulb. Obviously if you did have a nice BMW, it would, like most modern cars, give you more information than just a warning light.

radweld. chuck a bottle of that in. costs couple quid. and don't top up with water! you will dilute what coolant you have in there, and reduce its effectiveness therefore leaving the car more prone to overheat.

Seriously would really help knowing make and Model of vehicle.

If it is a BMW and you are losing water there are 3 main culprits.

Expansion tank is split (common as on bimmers) bad design £30-£40 to replace yourself.

Radiator leaking (possibly collapsed Common on 3-series) £60- £100 to replace yourself

Head cooling chambers have corroded through (caused by using cheap antifreeze) big problem very expensive set fire to the car
