and don't say 'bin it!' just yet..!

any help advice or experience stories appreciated

Had this in my bag for blimmin ages (well 6months) and have bought odd stuff from the store but always forget to use this till receipt type credit note which is valid for 6months and treated like cash and wotnot. anyway, it expired in may and i called them up last week to say that i'd overlooked it and am a regular customer blah blah but they were having none of it and said 'the system wont recognise the voucher anymore as its over 6 months'..i said that the same had happened to me in Next, but they just said to return voucher to head office and they'd renew it..she replied 'we are not 'Next''..err, yeah, i figured- as BHS are Carp at customer services for a start..

Anyway, I need help. its £15 (not scrapping the voucher, feel the need to protest, but dont know how) i cant beleive they're being so uptight. to be honest, i didn't even remember it had a 6months validity period, credit vouchers seldom have expiry dates now (I've had a USC one for three years - which i'm selling by the way if interested!) and had a waterstones one for about 7yrs which was still valid and used a month or so ago..

what can/ should i do?!

It is quite common with this kind of thing that they do expire, gift cards expire and some expire if not used after a certain length of time automatically.

I love how no-one takes responsibilities for their actions no more. They let the voucher expire and then get annoyed with BHS!

I give my partners brother and g/f a Arcadia gift card for Xmas, last mth they told me they not spent it yet, what a waste,I redeemed it through Nectar points,£20 too.
It be expired soon, not that they care.

I don't do gift cards, and i dislike it when i receive them, as they are often for shops i don't normally go in.

send a ' nice ' letter of apology mentioning the hard times of the recession and see what happens, they have to at least send it back with apologies but may just send a new voucher.

Write a letter to a named individual, Managing Director is always best.
Enclose the voucher with the letter, send it recorded.
Be poilte, but firm. Express disappointment, and a reluctance to shop with them again.

From a retail point of view I would say it's tough - you let if exprire, your fault not our responsibility.

From a customer service point of view, I'd possibly issue you a new one depending on how I felt that day.

From MY point of view, I wouldn't blame them for not reissuing. But try, send em a letter. You may get another back.

yes well:whistling:.. i AM annoyed at myself, but more annoyed with them..

it was an honest mistake- i didnt even realise it had a blimmin 'expiry' date, and also, it was £15 of MY money id spend in THEIR store, so if they dont renew it, they're just taking my money so im at a loss obviously.. my point is, it wouldnt hurt them to re-issue cos its not like id take the £15 and spend it down the road in wilkos or wherever, i'd still spend it in THEIR store..

if they dont re-issue they've gained fifteen pounds without selling anything, whereas they probably have stuff nicked from their stores treble the value on a daily basis, so why they'd be so difficult with LOYAL customers beats me.

i've rambled on. quite a bit. i know.

i'll keep this updated - wish me luck!

**updating as promised**

So I wrote BHS my little letter a couple of weeks ago- and explained about their CS lady saying the whole 'we are not Next' comment and really did express my reluctance to shop with them again (I really would've thought twice abt shopping with them after this) but anyway, cut a long story short, they replied with a really kind letter and said they would pass my comments on to their cs team (i gave name/dates/ times of my phone conversations- have nowt to hide) and in return as a good will gesture posted out to me a £15 gift card recorded delivery, but did express that they were only doing so because the voucher had only very recently expired (within a month) and also that all vouchers issued by BHS have a strict 6month validity and wotnot..

I'm really pleased with the outcome no doubt, and am greatful for all those who helped me.

thanks a bunch peeps. I'm off to shop...(well, maybe when i'm next in town..all shops still close at 5.30 round here!)

If our company issued a credit note a credit note in 2006 , was not used. Do we still have to honour it?

^what? This thread is 4 four and half years old! After such a long time, one wouldn't even attempt to use it, let alone expect a firm to honour it ..
